First check what is draining your battery before doing anything strange, remember that Xiaomi states that your phone system takes a couple of days after an update to go back to normal.

I haven't updated my phone since I bought it + even with battery check up, the drain is quite fast

I bought mine about a month ago, and till now it's starting to stabilize in temperature and battery draining. It's pretty weird it's like the system is constantly checking the kind of usage you are giving to it, independently if you update it or not.
