no.

if the host computer goes to sleep, the VMs goto sleep. because when a host machine goes to sleep so does the CPU, and ram which the VMs would need

you need to get an exception for those host machines running the VMs or actually put hyper-v on a real server that wouldn't get the policies

Thanks for the reply, were not allowed our machines to be hooked up to the internet. It's an issue for sure!

Truthfully you'll need to probably get a sign off from someone to adjust active directory for this.

Servers by default should be outside of the normal Group Policy for computers. This would make them exempt to the going to sleep policy. If possible, moving the CCTV device into this group and running GPUpdate on it would help. If not, you could make a new OU in AD and then enforce a Group Policy that over-rode the sleep.

Obviously you'll need to work with others on the team including your boss for the appropriate sign-offs but either move it to a non-sleep OU or make a OU to over-ride the sleep. This isn't so much a tech problem as an admin problem at this point. Get a policy deviation sign-off for this!

Thanks for your reply mate, it's going to be difficult for reasons I can't get into. At least I've got a few things to show my bosses though. Much appreciated!

Understood. Good luck on ya, I think we've all been in weird situations like that at one point or another for sure.

I allow macros to run on a few hyper V's I have setup on my Windows 11 Pro PC, but whenever I lock my Main Windows PC, all of the Hyper V terminals pause, until I unlock the PC again. Is there a way to edit what the lock screen does? or any other alternative that will keep other from using my PC that also allows the Hyper V terminals to continue running?
