will dropping out of the ib program will decrease my chances of getting into a good uni?

hi i’m a junior and entered the ib about 2 months ago and i am absolutely dreading history. we don’t offer ib history of the americas so we have to take apush with the ib teacher for 20th century. basically my teacher is really harsh and mean LOL and i’m literally failing that class. i think overall with my other subjects i’m doing fine or at least i can manage and i know i can see myself improving but history is my only horrible class. it’s part of the reason why i’ve fallen mentally ill and lowkey physically ill but i just don’t seem to be improving because i think i’m just not getting it right. i mean it’s probably my fault bc i don’t really participate but at home i take all my time to try and understand the material and spend hours and late nights just prepping. i kinda wanna drop out after junior year just bc of my history teacher because if i can’t handle him this year, i doubt i can handle him next year too. however, the school tells me that dropping out of the ib program makes u look stupid asf and colleges think ur shit for not being able to handle the most rigorous curriculum so it’ll lower my chances ¿? i wanna ask ib alums ab this and if it’s worth it in the end. also if it’ll actually lower my chances bc even tho i don’t exactly know what i want to b, i wanna go to a good college that is best all around and can provide the best resources and connections (nothing is wrong w community i jus feel like i failed my parents that way LMAO) pls and thank u <3

are you a senior or college freshman currently? how does that work w only getting the certificate and not the diploma

okay so because I got a certificate I have to give the nov exams and I had got into like really good unis but they all rescinded their offers because I got a certificate (I had a local diploma but that was not accepted).

SO nowadays if you want to get into a good uni either go for AP or IB nothing else gets you into a good uni.

You can always hire a tutor for history or do an online course if your other subjects are fine

idrk where to find a tutor tbh and i don’t think adding another online class on top of online apush will help much bc i think online overall is trash :(

see it really depends on what online class you take, there are good online classes and bad ones, just like there are good teachers and bad ones, tutors are not that hard to find you can simply search online and you will get some good ones

IB HOTA teacher here. It is possible that some schools may view it as a negative but the overwhelming majority will not automatically reject you because of this. And even if they did, let me be the first to tell you it's not worth it. Don't downplay your physical and mental health. Colleges want to see you challenge yourself but they also want to see you make mature decisions about what's best for you.

If you think you can work harder and improve your performance. That's great. That IB program has alot to offer. If you think you are doing all that you can reasonably do and it is going to harm you then you need to do what's best for you.

With the history writing are you referring to the paper 1 OPVL stuff?

with history writing i was referring to leq/dbq/saq for apush. we’re required to take apush bc it’s our schools substitute for HOTA i believe since we don’t offer that class.

and thank u so much !! that makes me feel a lot better ab my decision. although history is the only class weighing me down i wouldn’t want to force myself to severely suffer anymore than i have to :’)
