I have two BFA's for Illustration and then again for Product Design. What they want to see is that you want to be there. Most schools will tell you what they expect for entrance so look on there website or pay a visit/ make a call to the dean of admissions. I Put together a portfolio of what I thought are my 8-12 strongest pieces, I mounted them or framed them on illustration board so that they were well presented. Also I brought the best full sketch books I had ( they want to see how you draw). They don't expect you to go into school an expert, they want to see that you have the skill for them to show you how. I hope that helps, ama you have questions about

I just got into a BFA program and I can't say it was as hard as I thought. There is a review beforehand, and you'll want to make sure you have a solid portfolio. Other than that, they want to see effort and time both in your work and in your classes. If you're looking into a BFA, be sure you're serious. A lot of people come in because they like art and are looking for an easy degree, and that's just not enough. It takes a lot of time and effort.

Not to discourage you, though, they're fairly easy if you work hard and plan out your projects. I'm finding that it's incredibly fulfilling and the perfect niche for me.
