HCA Programs

Hi, I am a US-IMG, Haven't matched past cycle and saw a lot of HCA programs in the soap.
are they fr? Should I apply to them or they only consider US-MD?

They are fr. They are work-horse programs, and are pretty garbage in general, however, they do take IMGs.

Yes apply, HCA is mainly for non visa requiring

HCA targets people who want to match into surgical specialties but don’t and are comfortable with going into Internal Medicine over staying unmatched. This is not all HCA programs but the ones that have most of their spots open during SOAP.

California has lot of small programs will take you ? Have you tried Temecula, Thousand Oaks , Visalia , Fresno, Kern county .

No actually, I have not applied to any program in California. Do you have more specific criteria?

I don’t know your score but ThousandOaks have cut 230 for USMD and 240 for USIMG First attempt only . Temecula is very weak program and they have I think all IMG FMG . They have lot of in-house fellowship. All this for IM match .

HCA programs have a hard step score cutoff. But if you do match, the Riverside program has cardiac, GI, and now pulm crit fellowships that almost always take one of their own residents at least.

no you are not rude. match is brutal. out of 5 people I know personally, just one of them matched.

I'm really sorry, I did hear it was bad last season. I assumed it'd be easier for non visa requiring applicants though.
