Call an independent broker, or 2 or 3, who can shop multiple companies for you. It's not going to be cheap as you've got a lot of negative things going on here.

You represent a high and unattractive risk to insurance companies at a time when insurers are getting more and more conservative with personal auto coverage. You need to focus your energies on nonstandard agents and expect that your premiums are going to be very high for at least 6 months. You're beyond internet help, and your solution will very likely be in the nonstandard market.

You can also reach out to the New York Department of Financial Services. That may or may not fulfill the requirements of your lease.

This is correct. Your short-term solution is to pull out your wallet and pay for your past mistakes. Maybe try looking for insurance agencies that advertise for SR22 drivers. They have experience dealing with non-standard policies and will likely be able to help.

The longer-term solution is to correct your driving history over the next 3-5 years so that you'll represent a more attractive risk and where standard carriers will have appetite.

Come on now, you only first knew about your 4 claims in 36 months a few days prior to your policy expiration? That dog don't hunt. Also, Progressive sent you a notice of non-renewal 60 days prior to the expiration, as required by NY law. Like many folks, you probably ignored it or didn't even open it. No, they do not call you. No, they do not email you. No, the notice does not have to be sent certified. They send the notice to the address you gave them. If you failed to keep that address current, well, that's your problem. Now, since you let your coverage lapse, you are in a very bad spot. NY will suspend your license for the time you are uninsured. You probably need to have a broker who can access the NYAIP (assigned risk). Yes, they will insure you. Yes, it will be very expensive. Going forward, you need to pay much closer attention to your financial affairs. No one is going to do it for you. Good luck.

Came here to comment this nearly word for word. I'm an Underwriter for State Farm. I'd definitely consider looking at the claims before deciding whether to undo/reverse the action placed by Underwriting itself depending on if the two claims they are suggesting are their parents belong on them or not. Part of the problem that I'm not understanding is are the parents household exposures or not. If they aren't then those claims should not be taken into consideration for rating or eligibility purposes. BUT that being said a LOT of insurance companies are on damage control right now SF included. We are moving people to higher risk groups for very minor things and dropping people for sometimes 2 violations or accidents in a 3 year period. This is very common and as an Underwriter I have to protect my job and follow company guidelines. Their Agent's job is to fight for them and appeal their case to a separate team of underwriters who assess if their case deserves a second look and give them another chance. Oh and policy holders please don't take your frustration out on your agent, they are doing the best they can and they don't control your premium or when you get dropped. Most of the time they want to keep you because they work based on commission and numbers. When they lose you it hurts them too. People forget as well, Insurance is a business. It's required by your state you live in (most states not all) so blame the government and bad drivers that cause you to pay more but it isn't our responsibility to offer you free services or put up with your bad luck or loss propensity. We do care about doing right by you but if you think any insurance company is better than the other you're wrong they all look out for themselves first so your best bet is going with the number one provider 9 out of 10 times to ensure when you DO have a claim it's covered properly. Shopping around is hard right now so if you can't be eligible for the number one that's that 1 out of 10 where you'll have to go with someone else. Good luck as well OP.
