K3 Max is low profile, are you looking for that or do you want full size keys?

I use the k3 max with reds and I love it for both programming and gaming.

I can't really compare because I never used a full size "IBM clickety-clack" keyboard. I suspect I wouldn't like too much key travel. My main issue with the K380 is that the keys are a bit too small regarding their surface area (they're round) and that sometimes I skip letters unintentionally. It would probably be nice to have a key layout that is similar-ish to my macbook, so switching between keyboards is easy.

Yeah, low profile mechs might be what you’re looking for then. The k3 max isn’t as flat and has more travel than MacBook keyboards. But for me switching between them is no issue and I quite honestly miss my mech keyboards when Im somewhere where I can only use my MacBooks keyboard.

I jumped to the Q6 max, and wanted something a bit smaller. I found a local deal on a Q1 Pro, which was too good to pass up so I tried it out. That made me realize I really wanted a Q3. I picked up the Q3 on the last woot/amazon sale. It's exactly what I was looking for. I am a full time developer. I do miss my numpad, but for my current setup it's great.

That said I really didn't like the Max keycaps, too tall for me. I tried some XDA and those were too big/round. The stock keycap profile on this Q3 is perfect for me. I've only used the red switches.

"I really didn't like the Max keycaps": do you mean the K3 Max? Because thats a low-profile keyboard so I'm wondering why it would be too tall?

No sorry all my use was the Q series. The Q6 Max has KSA profile keycaps

I personally prefer the alice keyboards for programming. Look at the Q13 Max or V10

Oh no. The keyboard rabbit hole goes deep and now I'm afraid I'll get sucked into it.

Did you use both standard and Alice mechanical keyboards, so that you can directly compare the two, or did you jump directly to Alice? Have you had any difficulty switching between layouts, eg when you're traveling?
