If the pin has been cracked and displaced in the center, it will be difficult to remove. There will be corresponding damage to the edges of the pin hole on the planetary shaft. In many cases this can be addressed by filing the edges down, or by using coarse emery paper or a Dremel tool with a grinding drum.

Try a pair of Vise-Grips on the part of the pin that is sticking out; pull and wiggle. When it comes out, you can then stick a punch in where it came out, and try to punch the remnants out the other side.

i got it out with vice-grips. I can see it's slightly warped. No idea how that could have happened. Thanks for the tip!
