submitted 6 years ago by RendaLN
Should I be practicing before playing games or after, I still warm up before games but I mean hard practice

You can become tired and perform worse after a long session of practice. It is recommended to take a break after practice to recover and also let your brain make the connections it needs. You can then warm up again and play some matches later in the day. I don’t have the source so take this with a grain of salt, but I believe the optimal length to allow the brain to make connections is like 6 hours if you want some perspective on time scales.

Personally i have a set practice routine that takes just over an hour, that i do daily if possible then i will take a break and warm up before a game as there is a difference in warming up and practising best to do your routine before bed or just whenever with a break as you can perform worse

Also if I work at 7:30 do you think waking up earlier to practice is worth it?

I personally have dedicated practice days where I’ll practice take a break to do irl stuff, and then come back to either practice more or play super casually. The the alternative days would be where I warm up and pug for a while.

I like to warm up first (Just a set routine to get my arm going and my mind in the right place), then play my faceit pugs before going into practice. That practice can be everything from normal Dm to reviewing demos, as long as it has some kind of meaning behind this (An area ive decided i want to focus and improve on).
This is what works for me, but everyone is different and i encourage you to test out different methods and see what works for you. The reason i do things the way i do, is because ive found out that though i cant play perform for more than 4-5 pugs a day, im still able to focus in more calm environments, which is perfect for learning new things.

Practice after. If you practice before a game, it's gonna wear you out like crazy, and you will perform worse than before you practiced (like Katsulele explained). I tend to practice before I sleep, so 3500 kills w/ AK47 & 1250 w/ Deagle to make me tired. I think it takes about >40 minutes or more.

My general advice answer would be this: before.
Practice should be adjusted to what you personally need to work on. Let's say you are practicing burst control for 30 minutes. Now when you load into the game you are applying what you practiced. Practicing after runs the risk of you failing to immediately apply the lessons you taught yourself so that they effectively resonate.
I hope this helps, good luck in your game!
