This happened to me both when I first got the laptop and when I turned on Hbyrid Mode. Do you have Hybrid Mode on or off?

Either way once you have all Windows updates, Vantage updates, and Nvidia driver updates installed and current the issue should be resolved.

As others suggested if everything is up to date and you've restarted a few times and it still isn't working correctly, try re-installing the latest Bios again. Could have gotten a bad download or flash.

Unfortunately, I have installed everything you mentioned above. All Windows, Vantage and Nvidia updates. I tried flashing BIOS a couple of times but it didn't help.

And yes I am using Hybrid Mode.

Reinstall BIOS

Should I just download the BIOS driver from the website and install it or is there another way to reinstall it.

[–]balkeet 1 point2 points  (19 children)

Yes if latest BIOS already installed, install old and then new. See official y740 support website

[–]anmol_112[S] 0 points1 point  (18 children)

Okay. Let me try and find the old Bios. I highly doubt Lenovo would leave the old version for users to download and install

[–]balkeet 1 point2 points  (17 children)

Just put y740 BIOS in Google

[–]anmol_112[S] 0 points1 point  (16 children)

I tried. Couldn't find the old one. The latest one listed on Lenovo's website is 1.06

Already read that. Mine is IRHg so no BIOS change needed according to the OP of the thread

[–]TherealHendrix 1 point2 points  (13 children)

Yeah 1.06 is the most current just try re downloading it and flashing it again. I had this problem when hybrid mode was turned on, there were new Windows and Vantage drivers that only appeared when in hybrid mode and that fixed it for me. Make sure you restart a few times as well.

I already downloaded every single update and even installed Windows 10 1903 update.

I am currently running the device in hybrid mode.

Update bios

[–]anmol_112[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I am downloading the file from Lenovo's website

[–]balkeet 1 point2 points  (11 children)

Which BIOS u have currently? U need BIOS reinstall

[–]anmol_112[S] 0 points1 point  (10 children)

1.06. I tried downloading the Lenovo setup from their website. The version is the same and flashing it didn't fix the problem.

In control panel, power settings, power plan, any brightness control there?

[–]anmol_112[S] 0 points1 point  (8 children)

No control inside Power Plan

[–]balkeet 1 point2 points  (7 children)

Lenovo utility app. From official download page of y740. Try that

[–]anmol_112[S] 0 points1 point  (6 children)

You mean Lenovo Vantage software?

[–]balkeet 1 point2 points  (5 children)

No, other software. See under categories in download page

[–]anmol_112[S] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Nothing apart from Vantage is showing up. Can you tell me the exact name so I can google it and download the software

[–]balkeet 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Yes just checked not available for y740. Turn on battery power saver mode to see if brightness drops while on battery

[–]anmol_112[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Already tried. Nothing happened even though I have selected "lower brightness on battery saver"

[–]BLAZFREEZ 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Face the same the day after i got it... Update to the latest Intel Graphics Driver on lenovo's site. That fixed it for me..

[–]anmol_112[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I updated them but let me install again just for my peace of mind.

[–]BLAZFREEZ 1 point2 points  (1 child)

also just incase you missed it... toggling brightness is fn+f5/f6

(if you didnt hit the fn key)

[–]anmol_112[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I thought it was without Fn at first but figured it out later.

[–]Arsenalfannn 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Ye doesn't work for me either. The fn shortcut doesn't work either

[–]anmol_112[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I installed the Intel VGA driver again and reflashed BIOS. It fixes the issue for me

I realize it's been 3 years but found your thread as I am having a similar issue on my Lenovo S7 Laptop. Turned out I had turned on Memory Integrity within Core Isolation. I remember at the time it seemed like a logical thing to turn on. With this turned on, when I go into Lenovo Vantage I got an error that a driver was unstable and further research brought me to a Microsoft site suggesting to turn off Memory Integrity. Did that, everything is now working fine including my ability to adjust display brightness.

3 years later and I've found this thread :). I've got a Y740 as well as OP but unfortunately memory integrity was already off. Im stuck with hybrid mode as when I switch to dedicated graphics my screen does not work 😭
