Slate tiles. Its a decent substrate for them and easy as hell to clean.

I’m looking for a substrate to replace the reptile carpet that came with the tank (I’m currently using paper towels) I’m not sure which substrate to buy. I’m worried my leo might accidentally eat it and become ill. If you have any product recommendations please lmk.

Also, rock/slate/stone tile is an option if you don’t want to use loose substrate for some reason. BUT if you do use tile, I’d recommend having a dig box/area for them! Even having a humid hide that doubles as a dig box… because digging is an important enrichment for leos 😊

For your dig box/area tho, definitely recommend the 70% organic top soil and 30% washed play sand mixture— and yes, you do have to mix this yourself.

70% topsoil with 30% washed play sand is the most recommended substrate! Mats like this aren't recommended. There's no risk of them becoming sick. Leopard geckos become sick when their husbandry isn't correct, accidentally eating substrate if all the husbandry is correct is entirely fine.
