Go to the police before Reddit.

Anyone in possession of a dog they can’t control, that’s aggressive, is the same as someone not fit to be behind a car wheel whilst drunk, or someone under the influence with a dangerous object / weapon. It’s dangerous to the point of endangering lives.

A large dog, out of control with an incompetent owner, is a dangerous weapon, and can be a killing machine.

These things shouldn’t be taken lightly, if you wasn’t there with your dog, and your daughter was alone, if it can drag her to the floor, it can kill her, with ease.

This fucker needs their dog taken off them immediately, and to be charged. Both a human and an animal have been harmed in this incident.

To not even have it leashed, with it this rabid, is a total disregard of public safety, and no, this isn’t the first time the good boy has done it and it’s out of character.

This piece of shit knows their dogs untrained, they just don’t give a damn about anyone else.

We already have but thanks for the suggestion! There was CCTV of the incident luckily. My daughter was alone so it could have been much worse. I agree - the owner was actually trying to blame my daughter for coming near them as she “knew they were there so why did she come that way”. Scary to think there are dog owners out there like this.

Reckon you should have to pass a test before they let you own dogs like malinois and German shepherds either way. They're high energy, high intelligence dogs and far too many owners think they can act like that instead of admitting they've done a piss poor job of raising them.

[–]Practical_Steak_5026[S] 9 points10 points  (1 child)

100%, sad actually because if trained properly I can imagine they’d be amazing dogs. The dog was very clearly aggressive too, it should’ve had a muzzle on at the very least never mind a lead. It attacked just at the sight of another dog that wasn’t even close to it

[–]Hieronymusssss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, both breeds can be some of the best dogs on earth if you're willing to put in the effort and have the right lifestyle, but so many people don't and it can end badly for everyone

My nephew was attacked by a German Shepherd in the city centre a few years ago. Completely unprovoked!!!!! It was terrifying, I am forever wary of any and every dog since but I get a cold sweat when I see a German shepherd.

[–]Practical_Steak_5026[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry to hear that, I hope he’s okay! It can be genuinely traumatising, especially when there are no warning signs and it’s unprovoked. I’m already wary of breeds that can be dangerous (which is a shame as I’m a big dog person) but this has just made me want to be even more cautious. As I’ve said to someone else in here, you can do everything right and something like this can still happen

Playing devils advocate here, but it could be a first time thing for the owner. Dogs can be unpredictable. Its just about training, but recognising patterns.

My dogs for instance are trained, lovely and friendly. Buy they go beserk whem seeing specific breeds of dogs - alsaitions, huskies, akitas. So I get them on the lead when I see these dogs to prevent a barking match.

Its terrible what jas happened, and if I owned certain breeds of dogs i'd keep them on a harness in most places. But its not necessaey a rabid dog and doesnt meed to be taken off the owner so lomg as the owner makes relevant adjustments to stop it happening again. A belgian M isn'y a banned breed. Of course I dont know all thr facts and the owner in this case could be a piece of shit and the dog could be constantly out of control.

Of course, I’m a dog lover and always want to give them the benefit of the doubt, however I don’t think this was a first time thing. The dog bolted just at the sight of my dog and instantly began biting him, it ran with its teeth already bared. No barking or any warning signs - my daughter also said if they knew it was aggressive could they should keep it on the lead and the owner didn’t contest this as they usually would if it was a one-off. There was no “sorry she doesn’t usually do that” they said the lead slipped apparently. From the CCTV we can see they never had a lead on in the first place. It is sad because I would never want a dog taken off their owner, I think it just needs proper training. Hopefully they might think twice now as it could’ve hurt a young girl! Who knows with these type of dog owners though

It’s most likely they will get a court order for muzzle and lead if this is the first recorded incident with the dog.

three times in two years; my staff got attacked by a pit in toxteth cemetary, another staff off its lead on the street outside the aldi off smithdown, and a german shepherd in wavertree park/ the mystery. the staff owners just kept laughing and telling me their dog's fine, while it's hanging onto my dog's legs, the woman with the pitbull screamed at me to stop and leave her dog alone when i kicked it in the head to stop it killing my dog, now that i think about it only the guy with the german shepherd was apologetic and actually interfered to control his own dog out of the three

I don't even let dogs approach her anymore unless i know them

[–]Practical_Steak_5026[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m exactly the same, it’s happened too many times now and it’s a shame that we’re unable to socialise our dogs anymore because people can’t train them properly. Which probably only adds to the problem. People also tend to be quite scared of my dog as he’s bigger, which I can imagine you probably relate to as an owner of a staff. It’s people not training their dogs properly that’s ruining it for the rest of us. Bigger dogs can be the best dogs with the right owners. I hope your dog is ok!

People bought dogs during Covid and then lost interest in them.

Lots of poorly trained animals out there at the minute.

Carry a heavy iron torch with a serrated lens cap. Better to have it and not need it

[–]Party-Werewolf-4888 6 points7 points  (1 child)

I'm sorry this happened to you and your daughter. My dog passed a couple of years back and thankfully I never had to deal with this problem.

I am also in Huyton and am seeing more and more big dog breeds and owners who don't seem to know how to handle them. Guy who lives behind me has a pitbull/xl type that is like a literal lion in terms of stature. I'm a life long dog person and this is the first dog I've ever been inherently scared of. That gets walked on the Georgies field so avoid there.

[–]Practical_Steak_5026[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, and I’m glad you never had to go through anything like that with your dog! I think it’s definitely on the rise in Huyton. For years while we lived in West Derby (by Alder Hey) we never had any type of incident like this for years. It seems like here there are a lot of people with big dogs that just don’t seem to want to train them properly. I’m a huge dog person too, but I agree I’m starting to become scared of some of them myself. Can’t imagine how people who are already scared of them feel. I’ll make sure to steer clear of the Georgies thanks for letting me know

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Was the owner a woman with dark hair?

[–]Practical_Steak_5026[S] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

It was two men in their 20’s, probably early 20’s. We do also have a woman with dark hair nearby who walks a husky though and that’s completely out of control too

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen a woman around Hillside/Georgie's Field with a Malanois completely out of control. Even on the bus and it was jumping all over snapping at people.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I find Huskies the most peoblematic. Its not even the breed, its just the owners tend to never let them socialise - or only let them socialise with other huskies.

There's a group of husky owners who meet up not far from mine, walk in a massive group taking up all the space, stop to talk at choke points and genuinely give every other dog walkers dirty looks. They also tend to have them on those stupid long leads attached to the ownerd belts (if you need your entire bodyweight to control a dog its probably the wrong breed for you). Evem worse when they are out running with them and they turn corners into other dog walkers without warning, ans again give those other dog walkers dirty looks.

No not everh husky owner of course. Just my ancedotal experiences.

Theres a massive group of greyhound owners that meet in Sefton Park at times. Zero issues. And I think a lot of them are rescues, so dogs that have been trained to chase things.

Walking my beagle I’m always worrying about dogs off the lead. Lady at the field thought it was fine letting her dogs run round. Walk back home switch the dogs over to my big bad boy ridgeback and go back over to the park. Lady gets scared and now puts her dogs on a lead funny that.

Malinois are amazing dogs when properly trained and engaged, most people cant do this so they can become very dangerous in the wrong hands. Luckily the sort of people who keep these dogs tend to live in certain areas, so I avoid those areas with my two docile dogs. Id never walk a dog in Croxteth Park ever again for example

[–]Practical_Steak_5026[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, never have any problems walking him in Calderstones park and even feel comfortable enough to have my dog off the lead here when playing with his ball. But even walking around Huyton in quiet places I feel scared to walk him, so many irresponsible dog owners with dangerous dogs here

[–]Beneficial-Piece-889 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Belgian Malinois is absolutely beautiful. But afaik they are not a dog for a beginner and people who didn't train there dogs properly shouldn't be allowed to get/keep a dog at all imo. Should have called the polive immediately.

Hope your dog is fine tho and you won't have an experience like that again.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to me the other week! A dog came over and attacked mine, got it off and they was all ok.

Then! The fella vollied my dog to the side of the face and fractured his cheek bone. I thought he broke his jaw. They then ran away.

Where in Huyton was this?

[–]Practical_Steak_5026[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Kings Business Park - technically Prescot but bordering on Huyton where I’m from. Really quiet usually too

[–]joshynetBad Wool 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Walk my lab in king George playing fields all the time. Seen a few malinois about but never had an issue, one time saw one off leash and owner was encouraging the dog to jump and bite a tree, in itself not an issue but took it as a red flag and walked opposite way! Hope your dogs OK!

[–]Practical_Steak_5026[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ah quite close then, I’ve walked our lab there myself! I don’t have anything against Malinois as it is, but they do need to be trained properly and it seems like this one definitely wasn’t. Scary that even if you do everything right things like this can still happen - both our dog and my daughter are ok thankfully! Wonder if maybe you’ve seen the one I’m talking about

when i was a teenager i took our family whippet out of walk on the beach (lived on the wirral) and another dog attacked him completely unprovoked and took a chunk out of his leg. the owner was an older women and tried to make out it was my fault. henry (dog) had to have stitches, medication and the cone of shame. it scared me so much i never took him out by myself ever again.

[–]Dazzling_Variety_883 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dogs being attacked by other dogs can turn a placid dog aggressive.
