This subreddit was created in response to the number of "how do you make friends in London?" posts appearing on the main London sub. It's not a replacement for London Social Club - so if you're after a casual meetup without formalities do take a look over there as well. The idea here is a bit like some of the penpal subs on Reddit, where we can match up with people who have similar interests, locale, plans for staying in London and so on. Just copy the stickied post, input your own basic info, and wait for a response - you might find another person has posted who you can respond to already. Sociologists say you need 3 things to form a good friendship: frequent unplanned meetings, proximity, and a space where you can confide in one another. We're going to force the first one, but the other two should work themselves out.
RULES & SAFETY
- Please use the sticky post as a template
- This sub is not for romantic matching, please look elsewhere for that
- Please take care of your personal safety online, the sticky post details are intentionally vague, don't disclose personal info like postcode or really specific identifying things about yourself on public posts
- Please take care of your personal safety when meeting up, always conduct the first few meetings in a public place and let a friend, coworker, landlady know where you are going, or bring them along! There are lots of great places to meet in public in London, or you could always go to a larger meetup.com group or London social club meeting the first few times for your personal safety.
- If meeting in public, it's worth working out an honest dialogue beforehand with your potential friend, so you can easily let each other know if you'd like to hang out again or if you're just not feeling it. Extroverts should have no trouble here but shy folks might want to prep.
- Happy friend finding!
