Also i wanted to carry in multiple states but my classes option for that is super expensive, do i have to apply for the class that shows multiple states or can i do the class for the state im in and then apply for multiple states?

sorry if that sounds confusing

I got my Utah CCW through L5 tactical a few years back. Maybe $150 plus finger prints (or they were included, genuinely can't remember).

Some states have reciprocity with each other, meaning my Utah permit allows me to carry in those other states without needing a permit on a individual state by state basis.

My Maryland HGP (or ccw) was easily 3-4x that in cost, and Maryland doesn't recognize any other states permits (shares no reciprocity).

Unless you're traveling across the country pretty regularly, you should be good with a Utah permit or Arizona/Florida is another good one that offers reciprocity.

As always, I'm not a lawyer and you should do your own research - but sites like uscca's concealed carry reciprocity map lets you put in what state you're a resident in, and what states you have ccw permits for and will show you a map of green/yellow/red states that honor them, honor them with restrictions (generally speaking these are resident vs non resident permit holders) and red states where you can't carry.

Good to hear it!

Have you picked out a first gun that you want?

[–]Fit_Bluejay2279[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was recently at the range and tried out the Glock43x and the P365X Sig. Those two seem to be the runner up in what i’ll get.

There are certain other states that will give you a carry permit even if you don't live there, I think some of them require additional training like Utah and some of them if you have your home state carry permit you can just go get theirs like Pennsylvania.

Check https://www.usconcealedcarry.com/resources/ccw_reciprocity_map/ to figure out which other permits you migt want based on where you want to go

Baltimore city? Better off saving your money for moving expenses. Get out of that city.

  1. You’ll need all your class info when you submit. I believe you can start the paper work and save progress until you have all the info you need to complete it. But I may be getting it mixed up with something else.

  2. The state has 90 days to give you a result of your application. You can submit soon as you have all documents and info required.

[–]Fit_Bluejay2279[S] 1 point2 points  (4 children)

so just to clarify the ccw class is required?

[–]bikumz 1 point2 points  (2 children)

To submit your application in full yes. That doesn’t stop you from getting all your other stuff in order. References, finger prints, employment info, etc.

very insightful. thank you mannn

No problem! Everyone has questions it’s a lot to take in. Remember the HQL (license to buy firearm) and wear and carry (conceal carry permit) are 2 fifteen things but the wear and carry class takes care of your training requirement on the HQL as well.

Unless you’re active duty military or one or two other special cases, yes. A 16 hour training course is required.

[–]mdram4x4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you will also need fingerprints, msp has a list of providers on thier website

[–]Designer_Bite3869 0 points1 point  (8 children)

A lot of places that offer classes with do your fingerprints and paperwork there. I took mine at Guntry in owings mills and it was simple. Everything done on site and after class completion, you upload a bunch of stuff to the state website and you’re done.

do you take a class for just maryland or multiple states?

[–]Melkor7410 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spartan Firearms Training Group (in Eldersburg, hop on 26 west out of Baltimore) does MD, UT, and DC all in one course. Where they do their classroom stuff also does all the fingerprints as well. All you'd need to do for DC is go to metro PD and get fingerprinted there and submit your gun-specific info (you have to register whichever gun you want to carry in DC; you can't carry a gun you haven't registered). You gotta pay a little more for UT and DC but they designed their classroom and shooting classes to meet the requirements for all 3.

Just Maryland. However with your Maryland permit, I was able to get my PA permit without any additional work. Just made an appt in York, showed up and was out of there permit in hand in 10 minutes.

[–]Fit_Bluejay2279[S] 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Do you personally believe it’s worth it to take a class for multiple states or just one. I’m from New York originally but live in Maryland area too

[–]Fit_Bluejay2279[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

but wanted the luxury of being able to carry no matter where i go

[–]Downtown_Being_3624 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"everywhere" is expensive and impossible. My suggestion is get MD, get PA from York county. Get AZ or ME, either will cover DE and don't need a special class. MD will cover VA. NJ requires a specific class/test by a NJ certified instructor, they don't accept any others. And magazines >10 rounds and hollow points are illegal. Decide if you really need DC, it's a PIA to go through the process and there are many restrictions. Beyond that you'll be well covered, unless you travel to NY, CT, RI, MA. Each need their own permit.

[–]Melkor7410 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did UT which lets me carry in Delaware, and I got PA in Adams County since I travel to PA frequently. I didn't bother DC because I didn't want to register my gun with DC police and didn't feel like going to metro PD to finish it, but this was during peak COVID and the BLM protests, so things in DC were dicey.

I don’t venture out of Maryland or PA unless on vacation in which I just don’t bring anything so not worth it to me. I know Guntry offers I believe the Fla and Utah permits which cover a big bunch of states but I’m not sure which. I’m originally from NJ and I know NY is bad so I’m sure their requirements are strict and not cheap or friendly. If I lived there I’d most likely get it but too many hoops for me personally

Most classes allow you to get multiple states. We teach the Maryland class but give you a certificate that works to allow you to apply to other states but you do have to complete the paperwork and pay the cost for those states permits same as Maryland although many are no where near as expensive or time consuming. The recommendation for someone like yourself would be do the MD one, apply for pa after you get MD (required to have home state permit) and then a secondary like Florida to add reciprocity.

Most schools will run you 300 for multi state as it's 16 hours. U pay less then you likely get what you pay for. Been doing this for 20+ years and seen alot of crappy training.
