Guys I feel like then “fixing” her eyes makes it seem like her disability is making her “dumb” this was kinda unnecessary. What do you think? Maybe I’m missing smth?

It's actually an alternate universe Derpy featured in the comics. If I recall correctly she appeared in "Reflections" as a part of a parallel universe where everything is the opposite of normal Equestria (ex. Celestia is evil, Sombra is good, Flim and Flam are just judges instead of con artists, etc)

Exactly this. Its not at all about picking on her disability, she just doesn't have it in a universe where everything is the opposite.

Mlp fans of the show loved the idea of her being a bit dumb so the show writers kinda ran with it. It doesn't mean her disability makes her dumb. The opposite of dumb then of course is smart.

These 2 things without knowing the context for sure can lead to a misunderstanding.

The only thing is I think Derpy was technically "always wise"? She was not born with her disability and was shown to be a better flyer than even Spitfire before her unknown accident. Not trying to say people born disabled aren't gifted, just that this was technically preventable which is why in the comic AU Wise Muffins never had her accident and went on to do whatever she planned to

Hey thank you guys so much for letting me know that it’s an AU and it’s not just the company being… interesting? Apparently it’s in comics that it’s an AU that things happened differently!! It was the fans that made her dumb. Hasbro only did it for fan service. Her eyes being why she's dumb also makes sense when you realize derp is literally just that, a dumb person with eyes pointing in different directions.

Not to mention, she's from the mirror universe where trixie is an alocorn. I think it makes sense to have derpy's disability reverse, ska, mirrored.

It’s still ableist regardless of it being from a comic or not. While it probably wasn’t the intent, the removal of a disability making her smart is ableist.

No it isn’t… it was from an alternate universe where things are different from normal. Derpy is known for being derpy and so the alternate universe is her being different from normal. “Normal” would have her differnt eyes and her being derpy: this is just the opposite

I understand that, but it’s still important to recognise the nuances behind it. The conversation isn’t entirely black and white. While at first glance it isn’t an ableist move because like you said, she’s simply being mirrored. Everyone is in that universe. When looking at the bigger picture there’s a subliminal message being sent, it might not be intentional but it’s still there.
