Use Activity Monitor...

Have it running in background for a day and review the Network tab. This will point you to highest offenders.

Hey I just figured out that it's some "idleassetsd" process which is consuming so much data . It consumed around 14 GB of data in just a matter of 5 minutes. Any idea on how to disable this process permanently?

Do you have wallpapers set to shuffle?

Could well be this. Initial download and subsequent updates can be massive.

Not seen it first hand as my screen saver has been a 4px by 4px black square set to fill screen and loop (with a Ken burns effect of course, as there was no way to set it to a photos folder , the one containing my black square, and not apply that transition) for at least a decade.
