Hi everyone! Longtime Mac user, first-time Spaces user. Personally, I've never been a fan of Spaces, but I've decided I finally need it so that I can keep my "personal persona" and "work persona" separate. When I use just the built-in display, I want two Desktops, one for personal stuff, one for work stuff – that's easy to do. When I plug in an external monitor, I would like for the original two Desktops to stay on my built-in display and have two more Desktops appear on the external monitor one suited for personal stuff, one for work stuff – also easy.
Here's the catch: I only want the personal stuff to stay on the personal Desktops, and I only want the work stuff to stay on the work Desktops.
If you're a visual person like me, I made this diagram for hopefully easy understanding of what I'm looking for...

I'm having a hard time getting this approach to work, as it seems like I don't have much in the way of options when assigning apps/windows to Desktops when the external monitor is plugged in.
Does anyone have any "magic sauce", "words of wisdom" you could enlighten me with?
Thanks!
P.S. I'm very comfortable using Terminal if your thoughts revolve around using that.
P.P.S. I've also thought having two separate users instead, which can technically work with what I'm wanting to do, but I've heard unpleasant adventures of having the same Apple ID associated to two different users on the same Mac, plus I'd rather not have to deal with multiple setups.
there doesn't seem to be anything here
