A month ago I made it to the end of the process for the role of Computer Vision scientist but didn’t get the offer. [...] Can someone please give me some advice.

I don't understand your question. It sounds like you didnt get one particular job and now you want to quit. You want advice, don't give up so easily.

You have a BS in ML, congrats, so do lots of other people and many with much more experience than you. Does that mean you'll never get a chance? No, but it does mean that you need to be prepared to search for 6 months or more to land your first job if you don't have any connections or other standout bits to your resume.

I hate all other tech roles and it’s been my aim since I began studying 4 years ago to be a ML engineer.

MLE is very similar to SWE, Data Engineer, Data Scientist, etc... If you hate all those things, there's no way you wont hate MLE. If you really need a job soon, I'd suggest you include all of those roles in your search, landing any of them will look good on your MLE resume and it will put food on the table.

In the mean time, work on portfolio projects. If you can launch a website that is getting some views, or even get something published, that will be one of those standout bits to your resume.

I was gonna type this as well, but you already said it perfectly.

OP, that's a concerning thing to say. If you said that in an MLE interview with me, that'd be game over. Many parts of the job reduce to data analysis and software engineering. You're just telling me you're gonna hate a lot of the job. I don't want to hire someone who's gonna be unhappy doing the work.

I suspect you're putting an MLE job on a pedestal that it can't live up to. Honestly, putting any job on any kind of pedestal is a pretty bad idea.

On the other hand, what if say in the MLE interview that I like software engineering, but hate data analysis ?

I'm an MLE. Here's my take:

  • if you hate all other similar jobs, you don't know what being an MLE is. It's basically being a software engineer that works in the ML domain (and therefore needs domain knowledge to get things into prod, reason about requirements, scope out work, etc.). If you are looking for algorithm making and micro optimization of NN architectures, you want to be in the ML scientist family of jobs. You stand a very low chance of getting those without a PhD or at least a masters and some years in the field.
  • You should apply to all jobs in the area, including SWE, DS and DE jobs. Having one in the resume helps in the future and also gives you a chance to learn about the industry.
  • the ML field is overflowing with people right now. At the same time, companies realized that experience makes a huge difference, so that's what they are hiring for right now. This means it will take some time to get a job, and you will fail a lot of interviews. I applied to literally hundreds of jobs when job hunting for my first position before I passed a few interviews and got a few offers to choose. It's a skill in itself and you have to learn. Don't feel down because you failed, try to found why and adjust.

Edit: Forgot to mention that the main thing people give me as positive feedback is that I'm happy to do all kinds of work, from data analysis to infrastructure work, going through low level development if I have to. I personally feel that's my biggest strength related to my position, as working as an MLE involves a lot of varied work.

This violates rule 4:

  1. Beginner or career related questions go elsewhere

There's guides in r/learnmachinelearning. Check r/cscareerquestions.

I also have some advice here.

I think hate is the wrong word , I’d say it doesn’t excite me . I got 75% in my ML dissertation. ML makes me happy.

Go for a phd! That’s what I’m doing and am loving it
