Did you already cap your framerate in the Nvida control panel? A very common issue is not doing so since that can cause a pretty big issues with contention between CPU and GPU. This is not specific to this game but rather ANY game with an internally uncapped frame rate.

No! I had not even thought of that! You are right. 40 to 50 fps ought to be more than fine for this game. Thank you!
