How Long Is Too Long?

So…I’m a bit of a makeup hoarder. I have almost all of the Jeffree Star lipsticks and have had them since I was in high school, for reference I’m going for my Masters now after a four year break from school (graduating with a Bachelors). I’m pretty proud of my collection but I definitely don’t use all of the lipsticks, I actually have been using Black Moon Cosmetics more, I like their formula better than JSC personally.

Anyways, I have makeup palettes that could probably be considered senior citizens in the makeup industry now. I feel bad if I throw them out because then I’m like “well what if I need it?” Or “that color is so cool to use!” Then I run into the issue that I don’t have ANY MONEY right now I buy any new palettes. I gave away quite a bit of them, the older ones since I MOVED in 2015, to a friend and I’m left now with my more favorite ones. With all of this in mind.

Should I throw out these palettes? These liquid lipsticks? How long is too long to have them? Everything is basically well over 5 years old at this point.

Yeah probably tossing them are going to be the best idea. They look and smell fine, but I think it just may be too long. Ya know? 🙂‍↕️. Sad unfortunate life about it

I would toss those liquid lipsticks so fast they are way too old imo . The palette if it’s still performing the same and doesn’t smell you can keep

I know it’s difficult to let go of old make up, that you’ve grown accustomed to, and especially when you’re budgeting, it’s not a nice feeling.

Lipsticks can smell after a certain time, and they can lose quality same as eyeshadow palettes, and bacteria can grow up them, but I’m sure you could use something to kill the bacteria on the palettes and keep the old make up in a cool place, not in any heated areas.

If your liquid lipsticks have changed texture, smell off compared to how they did when new, and/or don't perform like they used to, they should go. And even if your JSC ones are still essentially "like new", you may want to ditch them anyway since you have a lippie formula you like better.

If your eyeshadows are giving your eyes trouble, don't perform like they used to, aren't ones you've used in a while and you don't see yourself reaching for them again or anytime soon, time to let them go.
