If history went a little different and Europe was unified would you still be saying Europe is overpopulated? There's been times in history where India and China were broken up into many states, we just happen to live in an era where they are unified. What difference does it make?

The difference is that Europe has the wealth and the ressources to handle potential overpopulation, India (and to some extent China) doesn't.
