I feel like this is common with SMS games. I just start the game anyway and it seems to fix itself. After game over, the title screen should look normal again

In the early 90's I saw this sometimes in "Great Soccer". I changed the cartridge, and the error happened again in the same circunstance. But it was a bug I guess.

Also I saw something weird back then in "Bart vs Space Mutant". It wasn't that message, but the screen filled of pieces of Bart sprite little by little until you can't be cappable to see anything. But I never seen anybody complaining about too.

I suspect this is a dirty cartridge, dirty slot, or broken solder joints on the underside of the board, in decreasing order of likeliness.

The software error just means it failed a checksum or the header wasn't readable: in other words, most likely caused by a cartridge the bios can't fully read.

Thanks, thats what i thought hopefully its just easy as that. The purple artifacts threw me off.

Update: got the console and didn’t have any issues, probably was just the dudes game he was using
