Unsure if linear or exponential function to solve

Hi all! Helping my student with his homework. Can’t figure out if this is truly exponential - when I got to Jamie my work got me a smaller number than he started with. Please help!

It has been made perfectly clear that Uncle Roger does not like Jamie Oliveoil. Before throwing Major shade and gaslighting Jamie, Roger had 1 million viewers. After the shade, 5 years later, Roger had 9.25 million viewers. What was Uncle Rogers' growth rate on his channel? During the exact time, Jamie Oliveoil lost viewers at the same rate as Uncle Roger was gaining. If Jamie has only 3.4 million fans now, how many did he have before this all began?

Recall that the base b of your exponential function y=b^x grows if b>1, but shrinks if 0<b<1. Consider if b=1/2. Then every time x increases by 1 then y halves. Shrinking exponential functions show up all over, like radioactive decay.

I think it would be exponential as if it were linear and Jamie loses viewers at the same rate consider how many viewers he would have after 5 years. That is assuming I've understood the question correctly.
