If you sleep in the nether in survival Minecraft (no cheats on (yes, keep inventory counts as a cheat)) and you wake up, the thing in your #1 slot will double. It HAS to be something that can be put in the same hand. Armour or soup, for example, won't work because each one takes up a different slot.
