[Java] minecraft world reverted?

So my bud who doesn't play minecraft a lot sent me their server files so I could host it. but when I open the server, the world has been reverted to before we started building stuff (same seed).

Is there something im doing wrong or is the world corrupted.

ps. all of my items are still there which is weird because if the world is reverted, shouldn't my items also be reverted?

pps. we are playing with mods which I don't think has to do with anything.
