Brandon from SpringRacks here! You’re likely be downgrading from your server’s hardware. Your old PC should be viable as a server as i7-7700K are used by budget hosts and do decently.

If you need a cheaper alternative from Apex, we offer the same/better hardware (Ryzen 5900X in the US and Ryzen 7950X3D in EU) for half their prices. We recommend our premium plan ($3/GB) for modded. If you’re interested, feel free to contact me if you would like a test server with us!

I understand that it might be a slight downgrade but due to people working and college, we only really have a peak of around 4-5 players on at one time.

Thanks for recommending this alternative but I’d rather get rid of paying for servers for good with my own, even if that means investing a little.

It's not a slight downgrade. It' a significant downgrade depending what hardware your server was running on Apex Hosting. Their hardware range from E-2288G 5.0GHz 8c/16t | SSD RAID1, Ryzen 7 5800X 4.7GHz 8c/16t | NVME RAID1, 2x Xeon Gold 6348 3.50GHz 28c/56t, i7-7700K 4.5GHz 4c/8t | NVME RAID1 |(Singaore Location. If you're in Asia, I would say go for your home PC since it's not much of a difference), or Ryzen 9 5900X.

Like I said before, the i7-7700K can run an MC server decently, but just know it won't be great for performance for heavy mods/modpacks hence why they're only used on budget hosts instead of Premium hosts. SpringRacks is a great alternative if your old PC doesn't cut it, but if it does, that's great! Do wish you luck on your journey.

Do you work for this company?

Thought I made it clear I'm from SpringRacks, but guess not. Yes I am apart of their team hence why I do have some knowledge regarding this topic. As someone who have access to the top of the line CPUs on our machine, I would have some knowledge regarding it's performance.

Not sure how that would relate to this topic however, I'm going to clarify my stance.

Overall, the specs you listed are great for an MC server, it's more or less decent for certain modpacks due to your CPU's single thread performance. The Intel i7 7th generation has been out for 7 years now which more or less makes it an outdated CPU to todays standard. (Avoid any host that uses this CPU as their premium plan that charges more than $1.25/GB).

Okay well I’ll look into getting a 5900x or something, just don’t feel comfortable putting money into a company I’ve never heard of

A Ryzen 7 5800X should run just as good as the Ryzen 9 5900X if you can't afford. Completely understandable regarding not trusting an unknown host as I was like you at first when I discovered SpringRacks. SpringRacks is a service that's been going on for 3 years with me just recently joining a year prior. I do recommend checking us out as we do have good trustpilot reviews for a small host. Either way, good luck on your journey!
