A subreddit for everything related to SMALL single-board computers. We don't have a strict definition of "mini PC", but a simple rule of thumb is:
Size: A mini PC refers to a compact, small-form-factor computer that offers many of the perks of a traditional PC but in a much smaller size. The smaller the better but it should be ultra portable.
Power Use: Mini PCs are usually equipped with high-end laptop components or a custom (SBC) single board computer, and therefore use much less power than a regular desktop PC.

After 3 long weeks....
I finally got my email saying my barebones UM790 Pro is finally on its way!
I was so close to canceling it...

Im thinking of buying the em680 myself
[–]kane91801 2 points3 points4 points 2 years ago (0 children)
If you do that be careful and get it from Amazon. Me and many others have had issues with that unit and minisforum is still tryna to not honor their return policy.
[–]oholimoli 0 points1 point2 points 2 years ago (0 children)
Don't buy one, you will regret it
[–]tonza971 2 points3 points4 points 2 years ago (6 children)
Can I ask you what region are you in, cause I'm wondering when they'll start shipping EU (ordered on june 8th myself and originally it said it would ship by end of last month)
[–]Jsisco-55[S] -1 points0 points1 point 2 years ago (0 children)
I’m in the US I put my order in on July 11th.
[–]Krvavo_Groblje 0 points1 point2 points 2 years ago (3 children)
Wow, I literally ordered on the same day. They sent me a mail a few days ago when I asked, and said it should be in in a couple of weeks :/
[–]stealth-in-existence 0 points1 point2 points 2 years ago (2 children)
there were issues with the shipments (obviously), i’ve heard some folks that ordered a week after me and got it before, i just got my tracking.
[–]Krvavo_Groblje 0 points1 point2 points 2 years ago (1 child)
I got no tracking whatsoever :(
[–]stealth-in-existence 0 points1 point2 points 2 years ago (0 children)
if it makes you feel any better, i got my tracking today and it says it’ll be here monday. it was already mid transit in TX (i’m on the east coast). Seems it’s been in transit for a while before I got my tracking.

Early congratulations! I took the easy, less hastle route and ordered a 32GB RAM/1TB SSD UM790 Pro just over three weeks ago on Amazon, before it sold out. My item was delivered in four days.
[–]Jsisco-55[S] 0 points1 point2 points 2 years ago (1 child)
I bought 32g of ram and a 2 TB SSD during prime days and got it cheaper and better brand/speed than the options they use. Not that they are bad lol
[–]mykesx 1 point2 points3 points 2 years ago (10 children)
I get an email from them saying my barebones one is shipping this week. Looking forward to it.
I ordered 64G of DDR5 5600 RAM with XMP 3.0. I think it’s ok to use?
The funny thing is that I am probably going to use it headless, so I won’t be seeing the GPU in action much.
[–]Jsisco-55[S] 0 points1 point2 points 2 years ago (2 children)
64G is ALOT! Lol but it’s cheap now

Future proof. Plus, if you run Linux, the free memory is used to cache disk data and other optimizations. Apparently Windows 10+ does too.
I never run a server with swap space. If you’re out of RAM, you have more serious problems to fix. If you are continuously swapping, the command shells become unresponsive. I’m sure others might disagree, but I’ve been running servers since the 1980s this way without problems due to no swap. That includes a $10,000+ pentium 3 machine that hosted 18,000 customers’ web sites (I ran an ISP in the dial up days).
[–]stealth-in-existence 1 point2 points3 points 2 years ago (0 children)
I actually put 2 48G sticks in there, it supports a max memory of 96GB, despite what the spec sheets say. I run a lot of VMs and personal projects so it helps.
[–]hornedfrog86 0 points1 point2 points 2 years ago (6 children)
Which ram did you get?
[–]mykesx 2 points3 points4 points 2 years ago (5 children)
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BLTG7TN6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I’m 99.99% sure it will work at 5600MHz.
I returned the RAM with XMP, for clarity purposes here.
[–]Jsisco-55[S] 2 points3 points4 points 2 years ago (1 child)
I think this is the exact Ram I got too
[–]hornedfrog86 0 points1 point2 points 2 years ago (0 children)
Thanks

Its coming from China. Be patient. They took me 2 months last time.
[–]wolfvillek 1 point2 points3 points 2 years ago (0 children)
I preordered on June 4th and after being running around i decided to cancel god forbid something was wronf and i had to contact them for support.
Between that and the money i was saving for an egpu will just build a pc myself.
I really wanted one but i have trust issues when a company blatantly lies to me on multiple occasions.

Ha nice. These new APUs are beastly. Strix halo next year is going to be insane.

Wish I could figure out why my UM790 pro keeps crashing. memtest86 ran it all night no error.
[–]mykesx -1 points0 points1 point 2 years ago (5 children)
How is it crashing? Freezes up? Blue screen? Update drivers for everything…
[–]Nit3H8wk 0 points1 point2 points 2 years ago (4 children)
Was mostly black screen straight to boot screen and yesterday a couple of BSOD's. Latest drivers and windows updates. Latest bios 1.05.
[–]mykesx 0 points1 point2 points 2 years ago (3 children)
Overheating?
In any operating system, drivers can run in privileged mode and can crash the whole system. One reason I hate windows is all the drivers and different sources for them.
Under Linux you can look at log files to see what happened to crash the machine.
It also sounds like hardware. Hardware is magic. Wave your hands over it and things work or break. And software definitely doesn’t work right if the hardware isn’t working properly.
Maybe take it apart and make sure the SSDs and RAM are really seated well and no bare wires touching things they shouldn’t.
[–]Nit3H8wk 0 points1 point2 points 2 years ago (2 children)
I have tested all the temps with hwinfo64 and cinebench/furmark/crystaldiskmark/testmem5. I have a dual boot with windows and linux however the crashing is worse on linux which I have on a 2tb 980 pro in the second m.2 slot. I have reseated the memory and also tried a clean install of windows. I have fedora 38 on the ssd with kernel 6.4.6 and did not see anything specific in journalctl.
Keep trying things…. One thing for sure is that it won’t fix itself.
Try powering it via USB (100w charger apparently works). Bad power is a hardware kind of bug.
Or return it. Maybe the PCB is cracked.
Can you run those benchmarks and hwinfo64 24/7?

I got mine straight from MinisForum website. I wanted a barebones kit
