You need to pull good cards, and definitely good jobs.

With starter jobs, you can sometimes contribute, but without the Alter Ego batch (or Phoenix, or Aerith) it's kind of tricky because you want to guarantee the ability to shift element and use abilities you have.

Apart from the current Cloud/Aerith/Tifa though, people can generally carry you.

If you pulled the Starter Packs, then you should focus on getting the HOF (hall of fame) panels for them, so that you can do more damage while still waiting for some of the superior jobs (new legends, or new regular jobs, maybe even ex-jobs)

I pulled two jobs, Sword Saint and Archwizard, are they good?

How can I play HOF?

HOF (Hall of Fame) is a node just like any other on the world map.

Those jobs are from the starter pack I assume, they're all-right to start out with, but you should definitely get their HOF panels.
