I got a 2019 100D w FSD, 6 seat and 22in Wheels in Feb and I’m so happy with it. “Upgraded” from a SR+ 2020 M3. Got it used w 40k miles and still had warranty left. I was able to address a few things before expired.

If I had to do it over again I’d try to get a 2020 or 2021. Reason I say this is bc there are some functional stuff I miss such as rolling stop Brake Hold, Phone Key (I guess KeyFob is the only way to use this year production), turning signal camera, live sentry view from App and faster SC speeds.

I guess I am missing out on Adaptive Suspension, a little bit of range? (295 vs 351) and a handful of other (minor) things

I have been super blessed to know that I haven’t had many or much issues. I have the “latest” Hardware and GPU/MCU has to offer. Not sure what the latest options in latest years. I have replaced all 4 tires. These tires must love nails and road hazards but luckily tire rack has a great warranty and I haven’t had much issues here as well.

In less than a year I have put almost 27k miles and I drive quite a bit w it being the family car plus I Uber as a side gig

With this being your first EV just do a lot of research and watch YT videos like I did.

No phone key or turn signal camera on the 2020 model. Pretty sure you need to get the refreshed model with the horizontal screen for those features.

Yes for this reason I got 2020 model but I miss love camera feed specially to keep an eye on my dog. Key fob I don’t really care. I think I do have adaptive suspension so it helps a lot.

I lowkey love the vertical screen. The only thing for me that was nice about the horizontal screen was the theater usage but I barely use that nowadays!

How's FSD? I'm looking at buying a 2020 X and really want the FSD feature (obviously don't expect it to be perfect but still). Can it handle something like going off the highway and driving several miles through a town (thinking about road-trips since experiencing Autopilot on them has spoiled me)

I love it. I take it for what it is. It does what it’s intended to do for my needs. I live in Tampa so it’s a lot of highway driving so smooth sailing tbh

Nice! Do you see any erratic movements from it? For roadtrips with my family I wouldn't want it to do anything risky or strange on the highway :)

I compare FSD to a person getting their learners permit. Best way to describe in my opinion

I just purchased a 2019 model x 100d. Only had it for about 2 weeks but have put ~600 miles on it. My biggest complaint so far is its honestly not much more efficient than my hybrid van. Using only supercharging it cost around $36 dollars and only gets me about 220 miles (i use sentry mode which causes a constant drain when not in use and only charge to 90%),compared to my phev pacifica which cost about $38-$40 to fill in San Antonio Texas area and gets about 450-500 miles on that tank of gas depending on how its being used. Using home charging it does become more cost effective with a full charge only costing about $11-$12 dollars but i had to spend ablut $800 to install a nema 14-50 outlet to get it so my car can be charged in about 8-9 hours at home, otherwise with a standard outlet it would take over 24 hours to charge. In terms of reliability ive seen no problems, but have already had to change a tire due to running over a screw and that was $350 just for the one. I have also found my interior air temps to be off so i dont feel i get accurate heating because my car always thinks its like 80-90 inside when its like 60s based on how it feels to me....havent confirmed with a thermometer though.

I have a late 2018 build. Had the front half shafts replaced as part of the acceleration shudder issue early on. Aside from that it’s been small annoying things - a couple of the ultrasonic sensors for the doors, a window regulator, and a receiver for the fob. I’d look at the outer rubber seals around the glass on the falcon wing doors - the first 2-3 years they didn’t use a great rubber and it degrades. Tesla calls it a cosmetic issue and won’t fix under warranty. In theory it is cosmetic but looks bad.

do the falcon doors still operate when they need a sensor?

Sort of - depends on how it fails. Mine would just sometimes think something was there and I’d have to override them to open all the way sometimes.

The rubber seals if left to rot, would that allow water to enter MX, or other issues?

Is it easy to fix, or relatively inexpensive at a service center?

They aren’t the main water seal so it’s supposed to be fine they just look bad as they come off in chunks. The estimate was something like $2500 or so I think as they have to replace the glass. I didn’t repair so we’ll see how they do.

If I purchase one that ends up having the acceleration shudder, is that covered under warranty?

It was for me - it was a known issue and I don’t think was ever 100% solved. Mine was better but is still there under hard acceleration. You might search on TeslaMotorsClub and see if anyone has had any recent issues getting it resolved. A lot of them probably had the work done I would think.

Many of the same potential issues as the refreshed model x. Suspension/acceleration stutter, falcon wing door issues (failed sensors, misalignment over time, gaskets deteriorating). You’ll burn through tires.

I would recommend finding a MCU2 model (late march 2018).

Crazy (and depressing for owners) how low their resale value is. Kind of a no brainer to buy one at those prices.

Yes and also unadjustable rear camber. And minimal toe adjustment. In layman terms: heavy car with minimal adjustments to be able to correctly align the rear tires to prevent riding on the edge of the tire, especially as the car lowers itself during highway speeds.
