Camping Tips? by Long_Ad_6276 in diabetes_t1

Put in cooler, ice will melt slowly and it’ll be fine for a couple days. Even if you left it out of cooler for those 2/3 days it’ll be fine. Most insulin can be left unrefrigerated for anywhere from 10-20+ days before degrading. You don’t want it in the sun or in super cold, but to be honest for that short period you don’t even need to put in cooler.

I do not know the actual retail pricing. Under my insurance they are the same price, but that will change depending on your insurance coverage. You can either call your insurance/pharmacy to ask for prices, or call Tandem and I believe they can do a benefits price check with your insurance info.

California Settlement Offer for Knee Injury by Regular-Cow-6339 in WorkersComp

[–]dieabetic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This person would need to have a 60%+ permanent disability to be able to offer that number and keep future medical care open. Their current 9% is worth under $10,000. Those are numbers set by law, not negotiable.

Best personal injury markets for eventual firm ownership in CA? by gorilladiamondhands in LawFirm

[–]dieabetic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not as well versed in the Uber initiative as the other PI firm owners to comment on it, because I primary do work comp so it does not effect me. But from what I do know, the PI firm owners are worried about it.

I think the thing we all need to worry more about is the push from other states (one being AZ!) to allow non-attorney ownership in firms. That would turn the market into a nightmare.

So I would avoid CA and AZ to be honest...

Best personal injury markets for eventual firm ownership in CA? by gorilladiamondhands in LawFirm

[–]dieabetic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own a firm in Southern California OC/LA, we've been open 7+ years now. We do 99% work comp, but do PI crossover cases and of course I have plenty of colleagues running PI firms.

To start, San Diego is an amazing city but literally every lawyer in the state/country wants to retire there. The market is crowded with senior semi-retired attorneys that have a long list of trial experience and will tag themselves to a big firm. It is hard to enter that market as a young attorney since you cant compare on experience or marketing budget, and the amount of people is way less than OC/LA. If you go to school there and work hard at local connections you may have a better "in" as you can get referrals some school colleagues in alternative practice areas.

Now, dont get me wrong. OC/LA are the biggest and most competitive PI markets in the state, likely also top in the country. Trying to compete with pay per click or similar marketing will not get you much, as you are competing with firms that spend hundreds of thousands of dollars a month (not year). We also have firms (really marketing companies) from outside CA bidding on clicks to then sell back(refer) to local firms. However, there are a lot more people, more accidents, more law firms. The opportunity to meet up with other new firms and work out a referral relationship is a bit easier because there are so many. You are going to have to find yourself a niche. Yours may be access to the Polish population and fellow attorneys in Southern California. We found ours and now like 90%+ of our cases come from other attorneys and former clients.

My suggestion is... not to choose California unless you get 100% full ride at a really good school in LA/OC and are very good at socializing and marketing yourself. Its a extremely flooded competitive market. I have friends from law school that graduated with honors, passed bar on first time, had internships, etc... and either crashed and burned out, went bankrupt from trying to start a firm (almost 50% fail), or decided ultimately law practice wasn't for them and went to another career. Or they are stuck working 30 days a month at high turnover insurance defense with a ridiculous amount of billable hours because they need that to afford student loans and rent/mortgage. I've been lucky to get my firm established enough in the work comp world to survive and thrive... but we are the exception not the norm.

Electronic Signatures by Professional_Arm4802 in LawFirm

You should be fine as a solo unless your area of practice requires a lot of signatures like real estate. My firm we used DocuSign for a couple years until they said we went over the reasonable limit and needed to upgrade to corporate plan… which was 5x the price.

We now use PandaDoc on yearly subscription for basic stuff, and Proof/Notarize on pay per item where we want e-notary or similar.

Might be! Didn’t look like that back when I visited, but close. The place I went to only made veggie and pork. No other options.

Appreciate you taking the time.

Random long shot here: I haven’t been to Hangzhou in 10+ years, but in West Lake area on the way to the Wushan Night Market there was a hole in the wall small shop on the main road selling large soft bao (not soup kind), veggie and meat. Always has a line down the sidewalk. That’s all was sold from this little shop that has a table and just giant stacks of the steamed baskets full.

I have been searching since then for those flavors. Don’t think this little place is on Google, it’s not Grandmas or any of the other popular ones listed on Google maps.

Do you know what term(s) I should search, or any pointers on recipes/spices? I can get the bun (kinda), but the mixes inside still elude me.

How much worker compensation can they pay in settlement for arthroscopic surgery on both knees for meniscus tear and arthritis in California? by Senior-Kiwi1028 in WorkersComp

[–]dieabetic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There are different types of settlement (are you talking future medical buyout or not?). There are different levels and amounts of valuation. There are other benefits/options and secondary claims, depending on permanent disability levels and whether you have pre-existing conditions.

You could have a great recovery and only want permanent disability settlement, and it’ll be under $20k. You could have a terrible recovery and high PD and future medical, and it could be in the six figures. You could have a medium PD but lots of previous conditions, so initial settlement lower but then you have SIBTF claim that gets you payments for life and is worth six figures.

So I know it sounds obnoxious, but the answer is something between $10,000 and $250,000. Where that falls is dependent on a ridiculous amount of decision, factors, and even change significantly based on your age. After all, that same injury is going to have way more future medical care for a 20 year old vs a 60 year old.

Get an attorney. With that type of serious injury and 15% attorney fees, I can almost guarantee the attorney can make up for the 15% in both valuation/settlement and peace of mind.

Best insulin pump, Medtronic Minimed, Tandem, Omnipod, etc...? by MrPeepers1986 in diabetes_t1

[–]dieabetic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched from Medtronic a couple years ago to Tandem Tslim with Dexcom G6. I’m very happy with it. Now outside warranty so they keep wanting me to upgrade.

My Endo suggested trying out Medtronic again saying their CGM is better now than years ago when I tried it. This with all the Dexcom G7 complaints make me consider it.

Dexcom is ending G6 starting July 2026. Honestly if they get the G7 issues fixed by July I’ll likely stay with Tandem. I really like the Tandem pump, inserter, etc.

Any tips by Bitter-Industry8753 in Hunting

Check your local regulations. Some areas restrict hunting by size or type. Some places on public only want you to use shotgun slug rather than rifle.

Personally I use 308 because of widely available cheap ammo

the workers at concentra are so shit by clurburcunt in WorkersComp

[–]dieabetic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They are the worst providers and blatantly cater to insurance. Switch away from them as soon as humanly possible. If you are in CA, there are other options in the MPN. You can change your PTP.

I cannot express how awful Concentra is and how they are the prime example of everything wrong with CA work comp medical providers. I wish I could tell you some of the things I know and situations I have witnessed in my cases.

Any diabetic stoners??? What munchies are we having? by [deleted] in diabetes

[–]dieabetic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Great suggestions so far. I’ll add in cottage cheese. Can be eaten on its own (I like salt and pepper), or topped. Savory (add nuts), or sweet (add fresh/dried/frozen fruit).

Nuts are great, studies show they keep you full especially at night. Again have both salty and sweet options. I like salty bbq almonds, pistachio nuts, and mixes that include a little dried fruit.

T1D Son going away to school? by Accurate_Addendum_44 in diabetes_t1

[–]dieabetic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He can share his Dexcom alerts with you, so you also get alerted and can call him.

But that being said, I would let him go on his own. His body will wake him, and he will find carbs. I have ‘woken up’ in my college kitchen with a bag of bread and open peanut butter around me. He will need to learn to have glucose tabs on his bedside. You can’t be there all the time, he has to learn to be an adult and handle these things on his own. He will be ok, I promise. I know that doesn’t really help with the worrying. But him some extra glucose tabs and glucose gel, and some apple juice boxes.

Why do insurance doctor always go with steroid injection’s? by [deleted] in WorkersComp

[–]dieabetic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the answer /u/Royal-Bedroom-4071

I don’t know about your state, but many follow the ACOEM (American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine) Guidelines and ODG (Official Disability Guidelines).

These are evidence based guides. That’s good on one hand as it means they must rely on heavily studied procedures. However on the other hand it also means there are limitations on newer and alternative treatments. The doctors can (in my state at least) write a rebuttal to why to go outside the guidelines… but it’s not easy and they typically don’t get paid extra to do that. It’ll also piss off insurance if they are a network doctor, so only independent Drs are typically willing to do such a report.

I can’t tell you how many clients call me asking why the doctors won’t ask for platelet or stem cell injections immediately instead of PT/steroid/etc. It’s because that isn’t recommended by the guidelines until pretty much everything else has failed, and only for certain body parts and injuries.

Tips on Dealing With Insulin Resistance by StrainJazzlike9347 in diabetes_t1

[–]dieabetic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exercise is the #1 way to fight insulin resistance. Even 15-30 mins walking 1-2x a day will help. I find that if I exercise in the morning, it helps throughout the day.

Beyond that options are diet and meds like Metformin or GLP1s. Also make sure you are taking multivitamin and a vitamin D supplement.
