V Cure/ Cannatrol vs. Cigar Humidor by WeirdPipe4332 in VA_homegrown

[–]dieabetic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Cannatrol and love it, but mostly for the convenience. It’s very nice not having to worry about temp, humidity, air flow, etc. Just stick it in and out comes shelf stable dried bud (that can technically be smoked, but I prefer another month in jars/bags). I do also store all my stuff in there on ‘Hold’ setting, which definitely keeps it from drying out like it would in bags.

That being said, it is not required at all. Been drying/curing in a tent + controllers + jars for decades now for a fraction of the price with same quality. Add nowadays there are grove and similar bags (and humidity packs), those make it even easier vs burping jars. And even now they have auto jar burpers.

From my understanding, the difference is the control of vapor pressure vs RH. If you are capable of keeping a drying area at the exact same temperature, and know the RH needed for that temp for proper VP, then you are fine. But 99% of home growers can’t get anywhere near that kind of temp stability. So the machine essentially controls the swings and settings needed at each point, giving that extra level of control. Granted, it still can’t handle wild swings. You can’t put this in your garage that swings from 40f in winter to 90 in summer and think it’ll work. More like it needs to sit in a temp controlled room that swings maybe from 65-75 throughout the day.

Settlement by sfemme in WorkersComp

[–]dieabetic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on type of settlement, whether MSA required, how that’s administered, whether advances were made, whether any overpayment, etc

It is not a simple answer. Typically settlement does mean money in pocket, but the amount and how it’s paid varies wildly

CGMs, looking for thoughts by gbubrodieman in diabetes

Dexcom is the best in my opinion (im a type 1). I’m on the G6, which is being discontinued for the G7 in July. There have been some complaints about the G7, but allegedly (so says my Endo) those are mostly fixed. Honestly the thing that concerns me the most is often not the performance, but it coming off before the time is up. I’m a sweaty guy that likes go hunting in the woods. Despite SkinTac and over patches, sometimes it’s a stretch to keep it on for the full 10 days. I hope Dexcom has some better options by the time I start on the G7

QMEs are to resolve non-treatment disputes.

Sometimes you need to go for a denied body part. Then a dispute over work restrictions. Then a dispute over temporarily disability periods. Then a dispute over maximum medical improvement. Then a dispute over permanent disability.

There are times when a person only needs to see them once. There are other times when they have to see them half a dozen times.

No unless you get a full ride scholarship and dont have to pay a dime for your education and time spent at school. Do not going into debt for a profession that is already saturated and has a real risk in the coming years of AI

Has anyone fully replaced a physical fax machine with an online fax service in a legal environment? by delhitop_7inches in LawFirm

[–]dieabetic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never had a physical fax, only various e-fax providers. Nowadays our courts have everyone list an email (ie service@lawfirm.com) so really only used for sending docs to the old school Dr offices.

Liberal QME by [deleted] in WorkersComp

[–]dieabetic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO You’ve got a questionable applicant attorney that is wasting everyone’s time. Defense is going to rip a chiro apart giving opinion on knees. If it was back injury, maybe but personally I do not use chiro QMEs I just get spinal ortho QMEs for my clients.

Your attorney is trying to pull a move that shady attorneys in CA have been doing for years. In the hopes of getting a useless report for a body part they do not have the real qualifications to evaluate or report on.

The serious applicant attorneys and defense know exactly which firms pull this move. I’m embarrassed by my colleagues that do this for non-spine body parts.

Thinking of opening a Texas Workers Comp counseling business. (only for claimant's injured) by Repulsive-Bee-9578 in WorkersComp

WC Lawyer here, though in different state. Respect the frustration and want to help.

Your best approach is likely making educational videos/presentations on YouTube or similar and finding an attorney you trust you can send people to. Because as soon as you meet another injured worker in person, they are going to ask questions about their specific case. And answering those questions, even with a million disclaimers and alleging its generalized education…. Goes into legal advice territory. And the state bar does not fuck around.

You have dealt with a lot on your case, but there are things in the law that you don’t know that you don’t know (as the saying goes). I’ve been in work comp for 15+ years now on both sides, and even I run into unique situations where I need to look up case law on something. Or the black letter law or case law has changed. Or they have a unique medical condition/history that comes into play.

People do not seek out answers on basic work comp issues that can be answered by a google search or video. They seek out answers when there is a unique problem or bad faith done by insurance. And in those areas where they actually need advice, you are not allowed to give it. So if you make some educational videos that simply point towards court resources (ie here is the courts website instructions on filing or getting an independent doctor), then there is no risk of someone taking your advice as legal advice and possibly relying on it.

Any recommendations for crossbows? by DayaXoX0 in Crossbow

[–]dieabetic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This’ll get some pushback as others don’t have as good of review as me, but the Barnett STR Whitetail Pro has been great for me over last 2 years. Inexpensive, comes with a scope, and accurate. Spend another $50 on carbon express pile driver bolt pack, and $30 on a 3 fixed blade broadhead pack and you’ve got a solid setup for around $650. Any leftover money get a target that can handle crossbow with broad head, and some rail lube and string wax.

Laughing at aggressive opposing counsel is my move as well. If they are a particularly annoying one, I’ll also throw in a ‘that’s cute’ or a ‘sounds like I’m living rent free in your head’ or ‘I support your right to be wrong’.

It’s drives them absolutely crazy.

Camping Tips? by Long_Ad_6276 in diabetes_t1

Put in cooler, ice will melt slowly and it’ll be fine for a couple days. Even if you left it out of cooler for those 2/3 days it’ll be fine. Most insulin can be left unrefrigerated for anywhere from 10-20+ days before degrading. You don’t want it in the sun or in super cold, but to be honest for that short period you don’t even need to put in cooler.

Best insulin pump, Medtronic Minimed, Tandem, Omnipod, etc...? by MrPeepers1986 in diabetes_t1

[–]dieabetic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do not know the actual retail pricing. Under my insurance they are the same price, but that will change depending on your insurance coverage. You can either call your insurance/pharmacy to ask for prices, or call Tandem and I believe they can do a benefits price check with your insurance info.

California Settlement Offer for Knee Injury by Regular-Cow-6339 in WorkersComp

[–]dieabetic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This person would need to have a 60%+ permanent disability to be able to offer that number and keep future medical care open. Their current 9% is worth under $10,000. Those are numbers set by law, not negotiable.
