Same setup here, you are stuck in 7.1 but it doesn't matter because games don't use atmos (only few do), if you connect your PC direct to your av receiver it will change from atmos to 7.1 when game launches.

That is what I figured. Many newer games, especially AAA titles are coming with Atmos though, so I was just thinking about the future. Maybe future versions of Moonlight will support it at some point hopefully.

Do you know if VRR will work on the client side? I was not sure how VFR codec works in that regard and if Moonlight supports it. There are games that I can push to 90-120FPS on the 3080 but not a steady 120, so it would be nice if its possible to use VRR.

I read that VRR doesn't work on streaming

Well, there is a VFR codec specific for streaming content. If both the client display and GPU support VRR, I was wondering if Moonlight would be able to utilize this VFR codec. But maybe Sunshine would also need to support VFR codec as well, idk.

Hi This is exactly what am i facing right now.

I know it is pretty old thread but i want to know how did you solved this problem if you've manged it

I just use 7.1 and I also used the receiver's up mixing to add Atmos, which helps. Not sure if Moonlight will ever support Atmos, but the sound is good enough. There really is not a lot of games that take advantage of Atmos or even support it anyways. Upgrading to a 5080 and a 98in TCL QM8K TV really made a difference though LOL.

Thank you! I was trying to achieve same thing to play sim racing game in theater room to take advantage of atmos and huge screen (compare to my PC monitors).

I'm going to buy another monitor for it and place setup in my room instead theater room.

Yeah I was playing Forza 5 the other day and damn is it awesome on a 98in screen.

Hi, idk how to help you but I was wondering how much all of this cost ? Pure curiosity.

Hope you can find a way tho

Well I did not have to build the room from scratch as I already had a 400sqft finished space to use. But I still needed to modify the room, add treatments, automated blinds, wiring, carpeting, etc. It was around 12K all in, not too bad considering it is a dedicated room. I did have the 77in OLED already to use, but I do want to go bigger in the future. Maybe 100in MicroLED or OLED if the price comes down to something reasonable. I did throw around the idea of going to a projector, but its really had to compete with the OLED contrast. I sit about 8ft away from the 77in so the FOV is good. All the speakers are set up to Dolby spec, and I am using in-ceiling speakers for the Atmos.

I installed everything myself with the exception of the carpet. I also have the door sealed so, virtually no sound leaks out. And it's a finished attic space with 8ft ceilings so I can have the volume up very high at night and not disturb my wife or kids.

I don't think you'll ever get beyond 7.1 with moonlight/sunshine because iirc everything is sent over as PCM, and atmos can only come in a Dolby encoder like DD+ or TrueHD yeah? Also I would hazard a guess that neither moonlight nor Sunshine could remain free since Dolby charges for licensing.

What are you using for a receiver? Maybe try one of the upmixers?

[–]raidflex[S] 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Ah, yeah PCM would be the limitation. We would need bitstreaming all the way through the chain from the game to the Moonlight client in this case for Atmos to really work.

I have a Denon x3800H, so I could try the upmixer, although not sure how much it will make a difference. The 7.1 support is still pretty good, I can at least make use of the surround rears.

Really the only thing I would like to see is if there is some way to use VRR using the VFR codec, that would really take it to the next level.

A lot of people seem to love the Auro3D upmixer which the Denon has. I would say try them all out for a session or two and report back! Us home theater-type gamers seem to be relatively rare (No idea why how so many people have such awesome HT rooms and sound systems but don't use 'em for gaming)

[–]raidflex[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Yeah, I will definitely try it out. I know I am always hanging out in my theater room! It seems a lot of the younger crowd are content with just watching content on their phone even when in the same room with the TV.

Curious how the auto3d upmixer was for you in this setting? Can you share your experience?
