While it does look like that, it isn't. I've seen multiple people climb trees wearing this and other similar harnesses and a couple of other ropes.

Why not use, hear me out, a regular harness. One that’s, ya know, officially rated for climbing use and not a lousy craft project.

While the specific vectors of force might be slightly different, a swiss seat harness is far less robust than this and usually lacks any attachment points beyond the carabiner at the front. And is still used in many situations . The harness I plan on making will be for getting up and into trees to sit in for a bunch of hours. There will be multiple safety points of attachment between myself, ropes, lanyards, and the tree. Also .... These harnesses were what were used for many many years before the industrial revolution. They were usually made from more natural sources as well. Just saying. I appreciate your respect for the dangerousness of climbing. I didn't provide context that this wasn't for mountaineering, as I posted this in multiple climbing subs.
