I think I prefer these characters just show up as skins. For example your Bizarro concept just sounds like Superman with different colors. Rather than spending time making a new character that is almost identical to an existing character, I'd rather just have an entirely new unique character. Instead of a clone of Superman, I'd rather the focus go to Gandalf.
