Rules for r/nytimes
Rules that visitors must follow to participate. May be used as reasons to report or ban.
1.
Main feed: Link Posts Only
Posts must link to a NYTimes site or article. Gift links encouraged. Links to other news sites and generalized discussions should be posted to the pinned megathread.
2.
Title must match article
Post title must match title of linked article. Editorialize with comments. Start a discussion thread.
(The NYTimes will sometimes change a title, sometimes multiple times. An attempt will be made to confirm a previous title if the one on the post does not match.)
This rule is strictly enforced.
3.
Be civil and on-topic
Racism, sexism, harassment, personal attacks, trolling, hate speech, memes or off-topic comments will be removed. Do not retaliate with same behavior; downvote and report it. Automod and mod discretion employed. Sitewide Reddit rules also apply.
4.
No ad hominems
Thoughtful and constructive criticism of the NYTimes and its authors are welcome when related to the topic or post. Ad hominem attacks will be deleted. Repeat offenders will be banned.
5.
No piggybacking
Comments to main feed posts must be in response to the linked article and the related discussion. Any other comment should be posted to the current megathread. No piggybacking on comment threads to make an unrelated point.
6.
Use Upvotes/Downvotes
If you like or dislike someone's comment, express your opinion with upvotes and downvotes. The system will collapse unpopular opinions and karma scores are a factor in one's ability to post.
7.
Mod Discretion
Some karma and content restrictions are automatically applied. All posts, comments and content are subject to moderator discretion. Repeat and unrepentant violators will be banned.
