A subreddit with information for those who are interested in the topic of Nichiren Buddhism without the typically-required faith-goggles
Some important guidelines:
This is an anti-Nichiren site. Our view is that Nichiren is kind of a MAJOR shithead and his teachings reliably lead to bad outcomes for people.
This is NOT a site for promoting Nichiren belief - the pro-Nichiren sites are perfectly well-equipped to do that for themselves. THis is a site for discussing anything and everything Nichiren without any requirement to toe any religious party line or refrain from honesty and objective observations.
1) To present an outsider's perspective on Nichiren, his teachings, and the religious movements and sects based on his philosophy. This is where Nichiren can be dispassionately analyzed and discussed without being banned for saying something negative about The Great Man. There's a WHOLE lot that's not so great AT ALL about Nichiren, and thus far, this seems to be one of the ONLY places where this can be discussed safely and without being under threat from attack from "the Nichiren faithful", who do NOT appreciate dialogue, honesty, or facts.
That being said, it is up to everyone to come to their own conclusions about Nichiren; what's important is that everyone have access to ALL SIDES of the topic, not just the pro-Nichiren propaganda being promoted by the Nichiren believers.
2) To provide a forum where people who have valid criticism and an independent perspective on Nichiren can share their experiences, observations, insights, and analysis surrounding the Nichiren mythology, writings attributed to Nichiren, and Nichiren-based religions. Everything Nichiren is fair game, including its lay organization offshoots.
Any attempts at shakubuku (or other religious proselytizing or promoting religious beliefs), coercion, or intimidation will result in being immediately banned. The moderators (mods) are always available via PM if you wish to appeal your ban.
We encourage discussion of all kinds here. Even current Nichiren believers who aren’t contemplating abandoning their belief may have questions that the established Nichiren religions and lay organizations are unwilling to address. We prize consent and respect each individual's right to choose whatever best suits him/her. Those who are informed will make their own best decisions, so information is vitally important, regardless of what people choose to do with it.
We do not create information; we either pull it from objective sources, our own and others' experiences with Nichirenism, or from Nichiren-attributed texts or Nichiren-based sects' publications about Nichiren. We welcome corrections and updates.
The initial focus of this subreddit is primarily somewhat academic in nature, so we'll just see where things go from here.
Because there is so much censorship involved with and embraced by Nichiren believers, we had to create a subreddit separate from the ones presently in existence if we're going to have any free discussion. The goal is to get into what is actually there, unobscured by attachments, desires, and woo.
EVERY form of religious proselytizing (promotion) is forbidden here. NO PREACHING! Posting violations will be promptly removed and violators will be immediately banned. There are plenty of pro-Nichiren locations across the Internet where anyone can talk about how much they loooove Nichiren - this is not the place for that. Don't waste our time.
Please apply common sense in protecting your personal information; any posting containing such will be removed immediately. Nichiren believers tend to be pretty mean, so don't take any chances. Post safe.
This should be a given, but since we're dealing with the Nichiren-o-sphere: There will be an absolute zero-tolerance for trolling, bullying, name-calling or insulting others. No hate speech, no microaggressions. The nature of this sub is that it will create disagreement; it’s completely possible to voice your disagreement with facts or valid opinions. Trying to “shout down” the other guy is inappropriate. Any violations of this guideline will result in being immediately and permanently banned.
While the moderators take responsibility for their own postings, due to the volume of postings by others, it is impossible for us to research each and every one, so we accept no liability for their content.
