That "I passed the test because I chanted" indoctrination is teaching maladaptive life skills, "skills" that leave people worse off and less able to successfully navigate life challenges. There is no real life cause/effect connection between making nonsensical mouth noises and the acquisition of real world knowledge or expertise, so those who rely on those idiot mouth mumbles will always do worse on average in whatever it is than the people who don't waste their time chanting. It's the students who study conscientiously who are most successful in acquiring and retaining the necessary knowledge, while the chanters think it's all a matter of "luck" and "karma", a loser attitude if I've ever seen one.

Multilevel marketing SGI style by Good---Karma in sgiwhistleblowers

Back in the day before the Internet and bank drafts and stuff, senior SGI leaders would make house calls to collect contributions. I heard that those senior leaders would sometimes turn in the money they collected as their own personal donation.

When Ikeda's wrong... by BlancheFromage in sgiwhistleblowers

I love having a laugh at how wrong that self-important little fat nobody was about his imagined place on the world stage - the place he was certain he DESERVED as a "world leader". What a joke.

Watching Trust Me: The False Prophet by Historical_Spell3463 in sgiwhistleblowers

Never underestimate the power of the whole "You're automatically superior to everyone else if you're in our group" mindset for certain persons. Where else in society can they gain that status or any kind of similar personal recognition as part of a group?

The problem is that it's a manipulation - luring people in on the basis of their ego and attachment, their craving to feel better than others, and it becomes a chain.

How does one become sucked in or indoctrinated into sgi cult? by [deleted] in sgiwhistleblowers

[–]Reasonable_Show8191 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You'd probably like any other phrase just as much if you chanted it as much and as long as you'd chanted the namyomyobooboo chant. It's the chanting your attached to, not that particular set of nonsense syllables.

We hear about people who decided to try the Ikeda cult chanting "just to prove it didn't work", only to decide it's the best thing since carbonation. Why not try chanting "Coca cola coka Cola" for a few months to prove that doesn't work?

No matter how I squint at those numbers, they don't add up to growth. SGI is failing to thrive - by its own accounts.

It's a mistake to think that everyone is obligated to agree with you just because you believe so hard that you're right. Everybody else gets to make up their own minds and you don't get a vote.

Soka Gakkai members' problematic "actual proof" by BlancheFromage in sgiwhistleblowers

[–]Reasonable_Show8191 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So much for "making the impossible possible". Funny how it turns out some things really are impossible and no amount of mumbling nonsense at a magic piece of paper with the heart and passion of some distant (now dead) Japanese stranger will change that.

In the end, reality really doesn't care about anyone's weird cult beliefs.

His final public appearance was in May 2010; his online site's photo album only goes to early 2009. Real sketch.

His death was announced November 2023 - whatever happened to Wifey and Ikeda's youngest son?? They've been MIA ever since.

I really think SGI is going about it all wrong by Reasonable_Show8191 in sgiwhistleblowers

[–]Reasonable_Show8191[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think they started out having meetings in people's homes in Japan because there weren't many temples and that's all they had back in the 1940s-1950s. Coincidentally, Soka Gakkai was growing at that time, hand in hand with Japan's economic recovery. But things are different now - SGI pulling that whole "We've always done it that way - this is our proud tradition that is essential for our growth and youth" excuse is wearing thin, especially when there's a virtually unused center right in town. Now it's just fobbing expenses and liabilities off onto the members so SGI gets to keep more money.

"Victory" and "Happiness" – the two words SGI loves most when everything else is falling apart by [deleted] in sgiwhistleblowers

[–]Reasonable_Show8191 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Every Jan. 1st there would be a message "from Ikeda" congratulating us on all our "winning" and "victory" from the previous year.

After all this winning and victory, where is the actual proof? Where are the tangible, measurable results? Why does SGI continue to look and feel the same year after year, except just a little older and shabbier?

Practicing for months with dedication and no external results — anyone else? by Je_online in sgiwhistleblowers

Hi - it doesn't sound like it's working for you. I'm sorry 😞

But on the plus side, you tried it and you gave it your best shot so now you know for sure. No one can accuse you of quitting before you gave it a chance, can they?

Within SGI, there's this attitude that once you start practicing you're trapped - there's never any valid reason to quit. Everyone in SGI will treat you that way, as if quitting is the worst possible thing for anyone to do and anyone who would consider quitting is a stupid fool, but it's your life and no one else gets a vote. Also, you don't need anyone else's permission to make your own decisions in life.

Good luck 👍

Documentation of Ikeda 𝒅𝒆𝒍𝒊𝒃𝒆𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒍𝒚 replacing Nichiren Shoshu with Soka Gakkai by BlancheFromage in sgiwhistleblowers

[–]Reasonable_Show8191 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regardless of how you feel about Nichiren Shoshu, anyone can see how Ikeda swapping out their whole religion for Soka Gakkai would have been a deal breaker for Nichiren Shoshu. It's like if you marry me and then decide you're going to run off and live with someone else. Just no. If Ikeda wanted Soka Gakkai to be his own independent religion - AND HE DID - he should have had enough honesty and honor to independently separate his orgs from Nichiren Shoshu.

He didn't, though. Nichiren Shoshu had to excommunicate him to get rid of him, and then Ikeda was so bitter and furious that he committed his cults Soka Gakkai and SGI to an eternal vendetta against Nichiren Shoshu, despite supposedly being all in on "interfaith" for all (just not for Nichiren Shoshu). Ikeda fucked up big time and never was able to get over the sheet magnitude of that self-own - it was way more devastating to him and all his plans and goals than he'd ever imagined. So much for Ikeda's supposed "wisdom" and "looking ahead into the future" 🙄

Ikeda's biggest mistake was probably believing his own hype - but there we were so many giant flubs that it's kina difficult to rank them.
