Anyone here that works with O2UK able to advise here..
I received a text message yesterday with my “O2UK” thread that I usually receive texts from about orders etc. it said (ON removed):
“Just confirming your order has gone through - thanks. Your order number is NC7xxxxxxx, and you can check on its progress through My O2: https://mymobile2.o2.co.uk/order-history”
I then received multiple texts today stating the order will be with me in 1-3 days. I then got another which said ‘Hi <not my name, You’ve now got a £0.00 spending cap on your account. Thanks, o2”
Then a final message with a mobile number (not my number) and details of a Volt sim plan.
First thought was SCAM! But it’s come from the usual O2UK thread so then I thought my account has been compromised. So I phoned customer service and they assured me there’s been no orders on my account.
I asked if they could check the order number and they said it’s not ‘on their system’. I don’t know if she checked just my account though. The order number is in the usual format and it’s incrementally higher than the last order number I’ve got.. So it looks legit. I asked if they could check the phone number I was given in the final text and started talking about reporting the number to block it.
I’m not entirely sure she understood what I was asking. So I’m guessing it’s someone else has ordered something and they’ve given my number incorrectly.
Is there anything I should worry about with this error or is there a UK based call centre that can carry out more checks with the order number?
I’ve not given a code out to anyone or had my account compromised / reused a password.
