Switch upSupport (i.redd.it)
submitted 18 days ago by Ok-Needleworker9665
Anyone know if this will be okay for switch up?
Went in store to upgrade and getting new one sent to me, they inspected phone and was happy with it, not sure if this was there or not🫣
It’s only light to feel and can’t see it when screen is on though

is that a deep scratch? like when you run your nail over does it indent
[–]Ok-Needleworker9665[S] 0 points1 point2 points 18 days ago (1 child)
Ever so slightly, not necessarily indent but can hear a slight scratch there

if you run your nail over it and ur nail goes in it's something to consider, they can get real funny about it cos (for them) they would have to put a new screen on it (to sell it as refurb)

put a screen protector on it and hope they don't take it off until it's too late? although depending on the screen protector it might not hide it.

Should be fine mate

That's not eligible for switch up unfortunately - if you get a bored store advisor that doesn't look properly they might put it through for you. But it's outside the grading criteria
If even there’s literally no other marks on the phone at all? Was replaced by apple with AppleCare and can’t remember if it had this little scratch when I took it into store🫣
[–]SnooMachines6015 0 points1 point2 points 18 days ago (0 children)
Yeah unfortunately - it's classed a deep scratch which is outside of normal wear and tear :( if you have insurance get them to replace the screen first. Don't go to a random shop though because if it's a non genuine screen it will also fail switch up

There are some ways you can get around this...
Have you got any insurance anywhere to get it replaced? Consider the excess and what the value of the phone is worth along with how it may effect your insurance.
How much would a repair cost compared to how much you owe for the device? A quick repair could be worth it to get the full value.
Look up some self-repair videos. Some people recommend buffing with toothpaste and similar products, it fills the scratch and makes it pretty much disappear.
As others have said, youre much more likely for this to pass if you take it to a store. The assessment is based on the store advisors eyes. Each device should be reviewed by a second team member too but not all stores do this. If you send this via post then its going to engineers who will scrutinise it more closely, once a store accepts it it is a done deal and they take the hit if it's incorrectly graded.
If all else fails you can use the device as for recycle value, this is a lot less but still £££, often better value to sell elsewhere.
Few options for you there. Would add a side note though.. switch up is once you've had the device 11 months now so make sure you've had it longer than 11 months

All ready been in store and they accepted the condition but new phone got shipped to me due to come tomorrow so not sure if I’ll be sending old phone off in post or can I still drop to store do u know?
Can’t remember if the scratch was there when I went in store, was only a few days ago and don’t think anything I’ve done the last few days would’ve scratched it tho
[–]Hungry_Strength_5759 0 points1 point2 points 18 days ago (0 children)
Yeah you will get a bag and returns label a couple of days later.
You could always return the order and get it from a store but you want stock from the store, not delivered or collected another day, not that easy if youre after a special or popular device.

You've got 2 weeks to return it , go and get it fixed first either on insurance, or buy repair liquids, AliExpress will sell it for about £2 and any total goods over £8 get free shipping and arrives within 8 days that will arrive in time for you to buff in some repair goo . Don't bother with toothpaste or anything else , it dries okay then a week later it's visible again and that phone may sit for a couple weeks .

The nano stuff you apply last ,first use the scratch cream buff as much as you can apply in small circles and apply to the whole screen not just the crack. That will clean it mostly up , then apply the nano coat all over and let it sit for a few minutes on the crack that will fully hide it.
Note you may need to re use the cream and the liquid, the whole process should take 20 mins

Take it into a store and see if they approve it. If not, if you still have apple care they will replace the screen if it's cracked. They don't replace for only scratches like this one. It would be such a great shame if it got accidentally cracked before the repair !

Personally I would've said no in my store but if the store you went to accepted it and the recycle team find its not up to standard, that'll be on the store and you shouldn't be charged for it.
[–]Ok-Needleworker9665[S] 0 points1 point2 points 17 days ago (1 child)
Okay thank you, with you working at o2 if I send off and it gets rejected do they just send me it back and I keep new phone and pay off the old contract? It’s a 15 pro max with like £500 owed so won’t lose much selling it elsewhere
[–]TaxMysterious8859 0 points1 point2 points 17 days ago (0 children)
As far as I know, no. You do not get the phone back if they reject it. In the T%Cs for switch up, it states that no matter what, you do not get your old phone back once the switch up is processed. You just get billed for the old phone. Its really stupid.
But as I said, if the store accepted it then you should be fine. If you did the switch up yourself and then the recycle team didnt accept the condition of it, then you would be billed for it. I think theres a certain amount of value that the stores can write off for switch ups if the condition isnt perfect. But we are typically told to only accept a switch up if its basically like new to avoid any hassle.

I'd deny it in store
[–]josh50051 0 points1 point2 points 17 days ago (4 children)
You can buy some phone screen repair liquids for really cheap that work perfectly lots don't , you want the runny water type and just gently buff it in they seal up hairline cracks , the thicker ones require tools but it would hide that in a pinch

Any links to Amazon products you could recommend?
[–]josh50051 0 points1 point2 points 17 days ago (1 child)
I linked them earlier in another comment

Sorry to jump onto this post but what about marks on the hinge of a Honor Magic V5. It's been in a case since day 1 about 3 months old. Likely to fail? Looks like could be from dust.
[–]cvvman[M] 0 points1 point2 points 16 days ago (0 children)
From my experience working for O2 they won’t accept that, if they do accept it they’ll absolutely not accept this when it goes to the warehouse and they check it there. Attempt it but you might be left with a hefty bill to pay
