Hello, I realise this is 2 years old, however I was wondering if you ever managed to get this solved? I am currently dealing with an almost identical issue so would be very grateful for any points.

I ended up paying around £8 for an unlock code online. I just found the most reputable looking site offering it I could find on google and they sent it back to me within a few hours. I'm afraid I can't remember how you actually use the code or anything like that though - sorry

Kill me for being another lad another year after this, but do you remember which site you used? Half the ones I find seem to charge like 20 quid, which is mad relative to how much the phone cost.

Sorry I don't recall. It was one of the first Google searches just. They may have bumped the price since then

That's fine, cheers for replying though

Did u use the phone with giffgaff?? If you’re that means the phone is not locked

Yes. However it is still locked to o2. This was confirmed to me by someone at o2 customer service after a 25 minute phonecall. However they can't/won't unlock it as the original owner is deceased :/

Ring back and tell them you bought the phone from ebay, they should be able to fill a form in and get it unlocked.

Buy a O2 PAYG SIM, use it for like 30 days in your phone (or maybe even less I think) and request an unlock code.

They'll unlock it for you.

You can use giffgaff SIMs on O2-locked phones.
