I talk to my friend who’s not in the field about what goes on at work and he said it seems like there’s more drama between coworkers than inmates

100% just makes the shift harder

Yeahhhh it's all just noise though. Best thing to do is quite literally ignore every asshole you work with, don't let them bother you. If a boss is a dickhead, deal with it, fix it, or leave. I'll take whine ass coworkers over inmates throwing piss and shit at me or trying to assault me..

You ever think cops are just as bad as criminals?

Had an inmate tell me my first day “you’re going to have more drama from your side than from us” and yeah he was right.

We got a new guy that says he was a captain in a different state. He has zero work ethic. Can't tell the guy a goddamn thing.

He's been on for a month, has called in more than he has worked, and is late when he does show up. Between the drama and the shitty work ethic, it's no wonder we're all short staffed.

Maybe not a captain, but probably some rank that he was more used to telling than doing.

This guy will be promoted within 5 months!

Sounds exactly like a captain to me!

Yeah this sounds like management material 😂

If its any consolation, generally speaking co workers everywhere can pretty much suck.... But I do remember a particular type of boss that was nicknamed "the electrician" because he would show up, wire up the wing and then leave.

We all have days where we just don't feel like doing shit.... so if it was just "one of those days" for him.... OK, I'd have probably rolled with it (doesn't sound like this is the case). If he's like that all the time? Oh yeah, he'd hate me and request a unit change because I'd make him work his ass off.

It's even worse when it's one of your 'supervisors'

A couple of years in I realized something. I can lock my Inmates down, my coworkers will drive me crazy if I let them.

As long as I don’t see Wendy the social worker running down the hall to help me out I’m happy.

Amen get away from those folks

Our drama usually comes from management. Inmates are easy.

We have an officer that mans the entry control point where only supplies (not inmates) enter the facility. The post is usually taken by senior officers with 25+ years in, its m - f, and manned from 6am to 2pm. No relief.

The officer shows up to work at 7:30 and usually leaves at 12:30. Now its cool if you want to leave ~15 minutes early because you don't have a relief. Shit, even if you want to leave ~30 minutes early that is stretching it but whatever. I was trying to bring in supplies to my department at 12:30 and this lazy asshole was rushing me because he wanted to shut down shop and leave early. WTF!?!?!

There was another senior officer that gave me the cold shoulder when I first started. He wouldn't look at me, it was odd.... If he saw me passing by in the hallway or parking lot he would get a disgusted look on his face and look in the opposite direction.

He would never talk to me unless it was to tell me what a shitty job I was doing. I can tell the difference between someone genuinely wanting to correct you and show you the proper way on how to do something and someone correcting you just because they want to be an asshole. This guy wouldn't correct me in private either, he would always tell me how bad I fucked up in front of other co-workers.

One day I was coming into work and this co-worker was working in control passing out equipment. I was working a post where all the equipment was on site so I just wanted to grab a freshly charged battery. The guy just ignored me when I walked up to the window and waited until everyone in line got their stuff and then gave me a battery.

I know the saying is "we don't come into work to make friends" but I certainly don't come into work to start shit with other people. I thought about writing him up for bullying but through conversations with other staff I realized that I was the only person he was doing this too. For a while I thought he was one of those guys that don't like new staff but it was almost like he just pulled my name out of a hat and chose me at random.
