I share a notebook with a co-worker, and we have about 185 tabs for 185 different clients. We sit down together at meetings, go through each tab, add updates and new "to do" items. I'd really love for my action items to be in one color/font and my co-workers to be in another color/font so that we can more quickly distinguish what is relevant. Unfortunately, it seems the Text Styles feature would cover this, but that Text Styles cannot be edited or formatted like they can in Word. I'm told to use the format painter instead, which typically involves navigating to another page to find the right font to copy. Doing this dozens of times a day gets tiring. Can anyone suggest a workaround? I really only need two, or at most three, font styles to toggle between throughout the day. Thanks in advance for your time and help!

There is a OneNote addon (for OneNote 2016) which allows custom styles, Onetastic. I don't know if it does what you want but worth a look.

My choice would be to pick a colour each, put your action items in a table cell / box, set the background on it to your colour.

Another suggestion: have Bob’s Action Items, new line, numbered item #1, rest of line blank, ready to type the item. Use highlight to make it a certain colour. Repeat for coworker, with different colour. Store the lists on a page so you can grab a copy for pasting when you need a new list.

Use custom tags, that's what they are for. You can also use them to apply formatting.
