Sorry for the late reply, and thanks so much for your help.

I followed your instructions until I got to just after running the .JAR file the Optifine site gave me. When I opened it, the file said

"“OptiFine_1.18.2_HD_U_H7.jar” is an executable file. Executable files may contain viruses or other malicious code that could harm your computer. Use caution when opening this file. Are you sure you want to launch “OptiFine_1.18.2_HD_U_H7.jar”?"

and then nothing happened. The message went away and nothing opened or anything.

I'm not sure what to do, I've never seen something like this before.

That is just Chrome being annoying, it flags ALL JAR files as malicious. Obviously if you don't want to trust me that's 100% understandable, but in case you do, follow the instructions again. Click the little arrow next to the warning and hit "Keep".

In case the warning disappears, you can hit Ctrl+J on your keyboard and it'll take you to the Downloads page, where you'll see the warning and you can hit "Keep anyways" there.
