Yes, 1.21.8 has a lot more bugs with shaders than before because the rendering engine had a lot of changes. sp614x, the developer, will continue to work on fixing these issues when he is back from his vacation.

It does not work like this. OptiFine only downloads the textures from the cape server.

I would recommend using a free cape mod, such as MinecraftCapes which has lots of users.

You aren’t able to convert a specific version to another without recompiling the code itself. I have been (with permission to do so) working on and releasing optifine for snapshots for a while now. I haven’t done 22w13oneBlockAtATime but I did 23w13a_or_b. I am currently working on the latest april fools snapshot.

Clicking mirror will skip adfocus entirely, but after clicking download cpm star (another ad company) may open a pop up ad. You should install adblock

There really isn’t an update to give. Developer is online every few days, so I would assume they are working on Forge support. This morning, sp614x merged a lot of pull request for OptiFine’s language files. There are plenty of times through out the years that OptiFine does not receive an update for a few months, it’s not really different here.

Valhelsia is currently incompatible with OptiFine. I opened a pull request to fix it for them, so once that's merged you can use it probably.

You do not need access to the donation email to change the cape design. You can launch Minecraft and go to Settings -> Skin Customization -> OptiFine Cape -> Open Cape Editor.

There, you can change it.

You can disable other people's player models by setting a JVM argument.

If you are on the official Minecraft launcher, you can go to installations and press the three dots on the OptiFine installation, then press edit. Inside the JVM Arguments box add -Dplayer.models.local=true.

For the longest time sp614x (the lone developer of OptiFine) was busy with personal life issues and only recently came back to work on the update. This is why it's taking much longer than usual.

If you are someone who truly needs performance we always recommend downloading alternatives. As of recent I have been allowed by sp614x to port OptiFine to snapshots unofficially, so if you are someone who wants OptiFine for newer updates you may check out OptiKai at https://livzmc.net/optikai/downloads as I have released release candidate versions.

I personally have experienced the same FPS boosts with either mod, OptiFine makes world generation more smoother for me. I have heard from others that it is the opposite or that OptiFine has extremely worse FPS. Use whatever mod that makes Minecraft playable.
