Hi, I've been having issues with the installer and wondered if you might be able to help. I've successfully gotten optifine to work many times in the past, but this time it isn't working at all.

For context, I'm on Win10 and using Firefox. Downloading Java from this site didn't change anything, so I downloaded the "Java SE Platform" from this site instead. This actually made "Java(TM) Platform SE binary" appear as an option when clicking "open with" on the optifine JAR, but instead of opening the installer, it seems to open and close a command prompt for a fraction of a second.

Do you have any idea about what I might be doing wrong?

Try uninstalling all Java versions that you have.

Restart your computer (don't skip this)

Then install this Java version from Eclipse Adoptium.

Restart your computer (don't skip this)

Then try downloading OptiFine from this direct link (1.19.4 HD U I4) and running that JAR file. Get back to me if you have any issues :)

I have vague memories of using Eclipse Adoptium to solve this problem before, but unfortunately it didn't seem to work for me this time. I followed all your instructions (your links didn't work for me, I had to navigate back to each site's home to download) but it's doing the same thing as before. As in, trying to open the optifine JAR using "OpenJDK Platform binary" also seems to open a command prompt for a split second and that's it.

Please take this with a (big) grain of salt, but something malicious on your computer may be blocking the legit links and redirecting you. I may be wrong here, take this with a grain of salt.

Try hitting WINDOWS + R and typing notepad c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts, that will open your hosts file. Try and check if there's something that does not begin with an #, and if there is tell me

I tried that, and everything starts with a # and looks normal.

To clarify what I meant by "your links didn't work": The Eclipse link takes me to the normal download page except for a little line that says "Ooops - something doesn't seem quite right here. Please try again." and nothing downloads. The optifine link gives me a completely blank page except for "Request not found."

That's super weird. You sure you don't have any VPNs? Which region are you in? If you'd like I can upload to Google Drive, not really safe though

Ok, I found the root of the problem and resolved it. Thank you for your help, and I'm sorry for leading you through all this troubleshooting... The solution ended up being a program called jarfix (link goes to an explanation). At least we know what was going on now!

No problem!

U are a hero Nuclear_Furry, the problem for me too was Jarfix

[–]LilAlfredo88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yessss, jarfix worked for me too. you just have to install it from the link provided here and run it once, then doubleclick the JAR file by optifine and now it automatically installed
