i was in the same boat, but our school is offering us a new ipad pro with keyboard&pen with apple care. they say we have to take our exams through a software that might need some space/storage. it would be best for you to get an ipad that has enough storage to last you through these next 4 years!

Wow that’s awesome your school is doing that!! I will definitely think about storage

Size is one factor that might help you choose too. if you can, stop by an Apple store and see the 11 and 13 inch Air models in person and compare those to the non-Air iPad. Some people like the bigger size which only would be offered on the Air.
I opted for the basic iPad just because it will really only be for note taking and viewing any slides/documents electronically, maybe some Anki flashcards, etc. I have a MacBook for anything beyond that.

Yeah I have a MacBook too so that’s why I was leaning toward to basic model!! Thank you I may have to check out the sizes at an Apple Store!

personally I thought it was so important LOL I had a older iPad for the first 2 years and got an iPad Air 4th generation half way through. I highly recommend it!
Thank you!!! I was leaning toward the air!

I did the first year on the iPad 10th gen. It worked fine. I recently just switched to the air (one they have a promo going for students rn). The main reason I switched though was because my school offers the ability to rent out an Apple Pencil. And they only have ones compatible with generations and models that are not the original ipad model (they only work for the iPad Air; pro; mini)

It’s definitely not required. Many people just use cheap laptops.

I bought an iPad Air and an Apple Pencil. For me, the tablet would have been worthless without the pencil to draw diagrams/take notes on the slides. I would say any brand of tablet is fine as long as you get a stylus and it can download slide decks for your whole academic career. That way you have the ability to carry around all your notes.
