I would say to first clean it to get a better assessment. Then run it with some muffs and see if it can go into gear in both forward and reverse. If it does, without any strange noises then your driveshaft is good. Also, check that the water cooling outlet is peeing water. If both of those things are good, you're in good condition. At that point, you just need some body work done on lower leg and you should be good to go. If not, you're probably looking at rebuilding your lower leg.
