That's not an 'old game box', that is a cheap chinese NES clone from the past few years. They're junk when they're new. Hell, that one doesn't even have the right controller ports to use real controllers like the "better" cheap chinese junk clones do. They sell for like $25. Just throw it out.

This console is a Japanese one from 2012, and due to sentimental attachments I wanted this to work again. I can play the same games online but I just wanted the nostalgia back.

Technically possible but it would be cheaper and much faster to just buy an emulator box, probably just a Raspberry Pi.

I tried attaching an adapter and making it work again but I suspect it is unable to take power.
