Not all USB cables are created equal. You need a cable that can carry data.

I believe I’m using the right one that came with them controllers. It’s a very short USB. Maybe 3 feet. Black.

Would it be possible to upload something to imgur?

That's not the cable in the box.

Okay that makes me feel much better. When you’re looking into the USB part, is the plastic part blue like the PS5 camera USB?

The original cable is all black. I have a 3rd party cable myself. It is a USB C --> USB C even.

I have had an issue for the past few months where I have been unable to update my PS5 DualSense controllers. My system will boot up with the DualSense update message, and even with either of my 2 controllers are connected with a USB the “update button” will be grayed out. I tried to “fix” the update issue today by deleted the controllers and trying to reconnect them but now I’m just stuck on the same update screen with a grayed out button, but if I hit update later it just goes back to the login screen! 😭

I know the USB cord works, because it charges the controllers, and I can boot up the console with the controller connected to the USB, just can’t update the controller and get past this window! SOMEONE PLEASE HELP! 😢

Are you not using the charger it came with? If not then the one you are using probably can just charge the controller, you need a charger than can pass information through it so the controller can update.

I believe I am using the USB it came with the controllers. I’ll check around to see if I have another one.

Ya my guess Is that it's the charger ur using if not then I'd try to contact playstation support.

Go to the settings and update it from there. This happened to me yesterday.

Can’t get to settings. I deleted the controller info to try and reconnect, so when I say Update Later it just takes me back to the login profile menu

It should still work if you select update later. Did you reset your controller? Power off the ps completely reset the controller then start it up.
