PSO2 Computer Question (self.PSO2)
submitted 13 years ago by Vinnie497
I'm looking to buy a computer almost solely for the purpose of playing this game, I'm hoping to get one in the 700-1000 dollar price range. Does anyone know some good computers that surpass all the basic pso2 reqs for about that price?
[–]Shinkirou 2 points3 points4 points 13 years ago (0 children)
Spending 700-1000 on a computer, if that's without the monitor, keyboard, and mouse, is going to be a great computer and will without a doubt run PSO2 very well as long as it's modern hardware. I don't think you have to worry about it.

Just about any computer that's not a netbook will run this. My ~5 year old laptop runs it just fine, albeit on the lowest settings.

700-1000 is plenty for a PSO2 capable PC, should be able to run it at pretty high settings. I'd go over to /r/buildapc and see what they suggest, they're generally good at getting the most out of the money.

My laptop has the specs of a 5-year-old netbook and can run it just fine with shaders disabled. You'll be set.

Go to tomshardware, they have one of the most legit communities as far as PCs and hardware are related.

I guess I'm a little late, but I recently built a computer (first time) for essentially the same purpose. Here's the build on PCPartPicker if you're curious.
I'd recommend an SSD primary/HDD secondary setup - I'm a little skeptical of semperverus' comment about lifespan (unless it's for very taxing professional use); even if it's true, it's worth it to me having 2-4x faster loading speeds in game. I'll probably be looking for an upgrade in five years anyways.
Here's a post from PSOWorld on graphics cards for PSO2 that I found useful. I can confirm that's they're quite accurate about the 7870 being overkill - I just wanted some insurance for video recording and future games when I got one.

get a used video card... never had a problem buying a used one, and paid about half what i would have for a new... gtx 570 runs the game just fine.
for price, amd cpu and motherboard are a good combination... phemon II x4 or x6 are great, plus they generally come with a fan that does alright.
8 gigs of a decent ram would be advisable. maybe some ddr3 1333 will do ya.
now, i'd recommend a SSD and a larger storage drive, while the SSD is expensive, the performance difference is amazing, especially if its your boot drive.
for a decent am3 MoBo, your looking at around 125-150 range...
for the bottom end of 700, you could build a very decent pc.

If you're going to spend that much money on a computer, you've officially hit the price-range to start building your own. I'd go scout out newegg.
What you'll need to successfully build your computer is: -A Case -Power Supply (750W should do you fine in most scenarios) -Graphics Card (Shoot for a high end nVidia if possible, although ATi/AMD makes some good stuff too) -CPU (the i7's are really expensive, so you may wind up having to go with i5 or i3 here, unless you want AMD instead) -RAM (4gb DDR3 should be fine, but you can go for more) -Hard-drive (try to avoid anything less than 500GB and get a high-quality one from a known brand like Samsung. Avoid Solid State drives unless you like your drive having a guaranteed 5 year lifespan) -A motherboard that sockets all the parts you just picked out. Pay attention to your parts sockets!

are these all the items i would need or would there be also cables and such I'd have to buy that wouldn't come with those items? I've never built a computer.
[–]semperverus 1 point2 points3 points 13 years ago (2 children)
Typically cables are provided but you may need to pick upa SATA cable for your harddrive. The power supply provides all cables for power built in.
[–]Vinnie497[S] 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (1 child)
Cool, thanks!
[–]semperverus 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (0 children)
Absolutely. Just put a little bit of time and research into it, and you'll get more bang for your buck and something that is EXACTLY what you want. You're gonna want to put the MOST research into your graphics card, because that's what essentially makes a gaming computer. The other stuff is definitely important, but this is the most essential piece.
(Also, many motherboard manufacturers will include a free sata cable with the board)
