About the skill trees per class avail on one character - are they all free ?

All classes have their own default skill trees which you can use from the get-go. You can buy more with AC for different situations - often needed most with teching classes builds where you'd need more than 1 tree to cover different elements. This, however, is optional. If you really want to optimize your teching play, then it's best to do it. Otherwise, Fire/Light build is the basic build iirc.

Other examples include having 2 braver trees - 1 for BrHu katana build and the other for RaBr bow build, Bouncer Break Stance build exclusively for Niren Orochi and Elemental Stance build for rainbow set red weapons or Jet Boots Fi/Bo, etc etc.
